Stevie. Came up big on both ends.
Stevie was our best player after the hockey line change, and helped turned the game to our favor. He continued playing well in his other stints on the court.
11 points on 4-for-5 from the floor ... 4 reb ... 4 assists ... good D most of the time, including 2 blocked shots ... and on a night that we had 20 turnovers as a team, he only had 1 of them.
To me, it's not a matter of "Oh, let's give it to somebody new." I think Stevie deserves SoTG.
Lewis also played well and also would be a worthy SoTG, and Kuath really influenced the game on D.

Excellent point, Dr. B.
Oso was next at +17. He keeps getting better. He boxes out better than anybody else on the team.
I'd probably say Lewis but I don't understand why Kur only played 16 mins. I think we're better defensively with him on the floor. It's way more than the 3 blks, he has shown he's capable of good help D and altering shots. Oso, Lewis, and O-Max and often late protecting the rim when a guard is beat off the bounce. Also, Kur has pretty good hands and some touch. He rarely forces anything. I think we need to fo s better job of using our posts inside. Not that Kuath needs to take a lot of shots but I think he's more capable than it appears at times. In the half-court we have to do more than Kolek trying to create off the dribble.

I don't understand why Kur only played 16 mins.
Maybe because Shaka wants Oso to get more experience, and games against cupcakes present perfect opportunities?
Maybe because Shaka liked what he's seeing from Oso, who gets the best rebounding position of anybody on the team and who always hustles?
Maybe because Kur has a good motor in shorter bursts but wears down if asked to play X minutes in a row?
Maybe a combination of all of the above, and other reasons, too?
For me, anyway, it's way too early in Shaka's tenure to question his apportionment of PT. Given how much time he spends with these guys, I simply assume he knows more about who should play how much and in which situations better than the rest of us do.

Stevie, because Energy and inspiration always count.
Stevie, though I wish he would have taken one or two more threes, seems hesitant to launch
Tough call between Stevie and Justin. Felt like Stevie brought the energy that the game needed.

Good point. There were at least 2 times where I thought he shoulda fired. It's not that common that a kid passes up an open 3 anymore.
Stevie it is. What a difference from the Wojo years, especially the Markus Howard teams. Six wins & five different SOTGs. An actual team!

The 16-17 team did have nine different players win it. Not a Wojo apologist but that is pretty good.
With this team there is every bit of a chance nine win it this year. Very possible that ten could win it this year as well, which I believe would be a record.

When you're right, you're right. Good call, Rocky.
I did not see the game on Saturday, but am a big fan of Stevie. He looks poised to me and I expect him and the other freshmen to continue improve this season. In years past I thought we might get small upside from our guys and this year I think all of the guys have decent upside. It looks to me that all of the freshmen are athletic basketball players and not just athletes. Happy to see Stevie win SOTG.
