I am really glad we have Justin and UNC has Garcia. I was never really impressed with Garcia. I'm not even sure if Garcia would fit the style of play.
Well obvious bias at this point but Lewis is a bruiser. Garcia isn't big enough to really take and initiate contact so he has to play a finesse style. I'm happy to say I'd much rather have Kuath and Lewis than John and Dawson in the front court.

Shaka recruited him at Texas, so I think he would have fit fine
I think Garcia is too soft to play Shaka's style of basketball. I think this was the main reason for his transfer along with Kur and OMP coming in.

Then why did Shaka recruit him when at Texas?
Both good players. Rooting for Lewis more at the moment.

They weren't exactly playing this style at Texas. I like Garcia fine and would be happy if he was still here, but I think Justin is a better fit for this team and probably an as good or better player right now. I admit to not having watched Garcia this year, but Lewis is certainly better this year than Garcia was last year. Garcia was skilled but lacked athleticism. It is easier to improve your skills than it is to improve your athleticism, at least I think so. So I think Justin will be the better player long term if he isn't already.
I'd rather have Garcia and Lewis, but I'm kinda crazy that way.
The obvious question is Lewis Justin or Garcia Dawson?

Valid points. I think the way this board treats a top-40 recruit as disposable is odd
If Garcia had stayed, Shaka probably put him
On Oso's conditioning program.
Would have liked to have kept him. With the right coaching, Garcia will be really good.
Exactly. If Garcia had stayed and done the same work as everyone else, he likely would have been just fine.
Lewis has really improved his handles. He's much quicker off the dribble than Garcia. A few times last night he had some nice passes off a blow by,, including a dime for a Kuath hammer flush. They are different players, Garcia is much taller. It's difficult to compare but I would probably choose Lewis. He's starting to figure it out. He needs to be a little quicker to react with his help D and be confident in his attack game and ability to see the floor when the help comes.

If it's either or, I'd have picked Lewis. It wasn't, though. Hope UNC works out for Dawson and Justin seems well suited for what MUBB is doing
I don't think Dawson be as a great fit for what we are trying to do this year.
But let's be honest, guy is talented he woulda clearly been a welcome addition to have this year.
But he isn't here. As for the question, I would absolutely rather have Lewis if forced to choose one or the other.
Justin's drives are generally coming off of pump fakes after a defender closes on him. Or othe places where the defender is not square to him. He is clearly quicker, stronger, and more confident this season. Doing a nice job of setting up and reading the defense.
Would rather have JL if I had to pick...obviously would take both. That said, I watched Garcia play in a fast paced game against Charleston and he struggled with the pace. Looked bad off the dribble...just not comfortable with the speed and knowing what spot he is trying to get to. Always seemed like a great kid...wish him the best.
Early last year, I felt Lewis was a better NBA prospect. However, I do not think you should be saying it is Lewis vs. Garcia. I think the choice would be between Prosper and Garcia. I am not sure how Garcia fits Shaka's defensive system, but this team would be better offensively and maybe rebounding wise, if you replace Prosper with Garcia.
Iz dis evan a question, hey?
I'd rather have them both but if I had to pick one I'd take Justin for this style.
Watching Dawson run the floor for UNC, I think he would've been fine, and likely would be a significant upgrade over O-Max at this point.

7-7 to start the game but has 3 turnovers. Kids a good player. Justin is a good player. But this is scoop and it'll be a junk measuring contest between the two all year for some reason

Offensively, yes. His defense on the wing is still suspect.

Big half. Probably not s great sign for UNC that they're still down 6.

Purdue is better
I said when Garcia was leaving that it was better him than Lewis. Nothing that's happened has changed my opinion
The bias is so damn annoying. They are both really good players. Dawson is balling out vs purdue rn. Idk which way id go if i had to pick. Its still a bit early. The goofballs on here saying lewis like its obvious can u just drop the bias for 2 seconds? oh but he wouldnt fit in shakas system like justin. oh but justins style blah blah blah.
Dawson is balling today.

Heck of a game. Nova will have a tough one tomorrow.
I don't think Lewis stays all four years, but I'm sure happy to have him here.

Maybe for some it's bias but just because someone prefers Lewis doesn't mean it is. To say otherwise is pretty presumptuous. Personally I found Garcia's game to be way too good of a fit for Wojo's style for my liking.
Lewis is better.
Garcia can kiss my a$$.
Sew wee agree on sumthin', aina?
Dawson only gets the empty buckets

If those 2 scared him off, he really is soft.
I don't think that is the case.
I don't think he was scared off, but awfully hard to see how his defensive game fits in with Shaka.
No doubt his offense would open up a ton of possibilities
It's not like UNC plays slow it down basketball.

Garcia is making nice NIL money, playing for a blueblood, and being coached by a 12-year NBA pro.
But yes, the only reason he transferred was because Kur Kuath and Olivier-Maxence Prosper scared him off.

100% on the first sentence MU82. I think that is part of the reason Shaka getting off to a good start is so important. Looking forward we'll have a well respected coach and hopefully (if things continue to develop) some immediate success on the court to sell.
NIL is still an area of concern. Would hate to see blue bloods poach our best players because they're fan bases can offer more NIL money. This start and continued success should unlock more money for our players in the Milwaukee community, hopefully. We may have gotten Shaka in the nick of time. Let's hope for continued success this year.
Would hate to lose Lewis through the portal next year (if he doesn't go pro) because of NIL.

You
are crazy.
Looks like Dawson is a Gopher.
Probably the right fit.
Wishing him the best of luck.
After more thought, I wouldn't and don't want either. Those are Wojo guys and the last thing Marquette needs is any Wojo-associated guys.
It's a bummer Shaka hasn't run Stevie or Kam off yet as well. They need to take Oso with them, too.

Saw Oso the other day at the airport. Looked built. Too bad I heckled him and told him "Wojo sucks and we don't need no Wojo left overs in these here parts! Unless you're from stevens point..."
Which he's not from stevens point, so we don't want em.

Rico is just hammering home how preposterously stupid the counter argument to this is from a few people on this board, especially with regard to guys as talented as Justin Lewis.
But what about Lewis Justin?
Yes...I know BC83 made the joke, but it keeps rattling in my head as this thread continues.
