The Big East got their 5th win tonight with Xavier.

DePaul tied with Rutgers in the second half. 43 all with under 15 to play.

DePaul up 71-70 with :28 to play. Both teams just hit three straight triples.

The worst part is the results still won't keep everyone from schlobbing the Big 10s knob all season long again.

Marquette has way more fans in Charleston than DePaul has at the Wintrust.

So by my math that's:

6 wins BEast?
2 wins B14?

I thought we were a mid-major conference according to the people in Madison?

6-2 in the Gavitt Games. Don't think the BE was favored in a single one.

The MU fans in Charleston were awesome today.

73-70 DePaul. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

It's probably worth noting that Maryland lost to George Mason last night.

Outside of Butler game, the conference without all the preseason hype looked better. Even STJ looked good at Assembly.

Plus the A10 took out their other one.

Absolutely.  Thanks for the reminder!

BE 6

Big 10/14 ... 2 ... LOL

And BE beats all of the B14 ranked teams

We should all be really proud of the conference. It goes deeper than the 6-2 record.

Big Ten was favored in all 8 games. Big East went 7-1 ATS.

The top 2 teams in the Big East preseason poll (Villanova and Connecticut) did not participate (along with #10 Georgetown).

The bottom 3 teams in the Big Ten preseason poll (Northwestern, Penn State, and Minnesota) did not participate (along with #2 Purdue, #5 Maryland, #9 Iowa).

I did not understand why so many people were down on the Big East to start the season. Villanova isn't at their usual level but there's a lot of depth below them.

Outside of Villanova, UConn and Xavier, there was a lot of turnover within the league.  St. John's, Marquette and Creighton essentially have brand new teams. Seton Hall lost Mamu.  Georgetown had turnover. DePaul very much looked like DePaul again.

Not a lot of league production coming back, combined with lack of "5-star" impact freshmen.

All things considered, the Big East (including Marquette) plays the underdog card well.  I'd rather have that than a league gifted recognition (like the Big Ten gets annually, despite not winning a NC in over 20 years).

I suppose Nova isn't at "their usual level" because you feel they aren't title contenders?  They don't have anything inside but are still really good and dangerous.

Yeah.  I mean, they went on the road at UCLA and lost an OT battle.  They're legit.

I'm surprised that I don't see any summary article about the Gavitt Games anyway. Maybe I'm impatient, or maybe I'm correct that ESPN doesn't want to post an article that will need to highlight how their lovable Big Ten was dominated by the lowly, Fox-loving BEast.

You are correct. They are still the class of the Big East and a very dangerous team but I see them as more of a 4-5 loss Big East champion than the 1-2 loss Big East Champion that they usually are.

Short rotation and lack of height at the moment is where I see their issues. But never count out Jay Wright

Throughout all the games the series is now tied 24-24, bet you won't see ESPN reporting that.

I think I asked in another thread, but is there a place that tracks non conf records for each conference?

Actually, I think that would be the spin that ESPN would put on it...that "it took an unexpected string of luck for the BEast to crawl back to tie in the lifetime series." As compared to the "unexpected, but not surprising if you really analyze it, domination that the BEast demonstrated over the last few days."

Agreed.  They are going to have bad shooting nights and lose 4 games in the BEast.  They have that Nova DNA though and are super tough mentally and.scrappy.  I just don't know how they're going to deal with a dominant big.and they have no depth.  Earl is a big loss.

I'd guess they have plenty of depth.  Jay never uses more than 7 guys.

7 guys played more than 4 minutes in the 2018 NCAA Championship game for Nova.  One of them (Gillespie) played 16.

7 guys played more than 10 minutes in the 2016 NCAA Championship game for Nova.  One of them played 15.

True but they had Ochefu and then Spellman.
