Why give money to Rothstein when you can buy something where some of the proceeds for sure go back to the athletes?

It's his thing. He started with the whole slogan thing for various coaches, then started putting the slogans on shirts a year or two ago. Trying to push his own brand, I guess.

I can't think of a person's name I'd want less on a shirt I wear. Maybe Rovell and Skip Bayless.

That's awesome. They could very easily do some justice to other former players by offering a former jersey template you can put their name on. Obviously wouldn't be perfect as we're not putting a converse logo on for example but similar.
