Havoc-style defenses are predicated upon having many highly athletic, mobile/agile defenders with length and reach. However, The "Mad Man" in any given five-man rotation almost invariably has the best vertical leap and highest hands for inbounds-pass and regular pass deflections, the best motor and lateral quickness to apply the most pressure and cover the most space of the floor after the inbounds, and often has the biggest wingspan of any player on the floor at one time.
Who, based upon our current roster best fits or is most likely to fit this Alpha role as "Mad Man" ??
Also, a corollary question to go along with this Havoc-specific subject...
We all remember Buzz's BootCamp. A Buzz-coached team almost never ran out of gas, even when we were woefully short-handed. Ok, maybe that @Louisville game where we crapped away a huge lead late.
Any thoughts on Shaka's means for pre-season conditioning...given the extraordinary amount of energy, focus, and stamina necessary to run a defense which even marginally uses Havoc-style principles?
Given his pressing style, does Shaka's pre-season conditioning regimen naturally focus more on producing speed, stamina, and endurance rather than strength?

I for one can remember all the times Wojo had MU run hills at St. Mary's. Oh wait, no I can't.
You only remember one buzz game where we crapped a massive lead? Buzz's team rams out of gass more than just once.
Off the top of my head:
Florida St, Washington, Vanderbilt, and Louisville. I know there's others because those are only my freshman and sophomore year memories.

I guess the rams just needed more grass!
If having plenty of grass were all it took, I knew quite a few guys who would have been superstars back in my college daze!

On our roster, probably Akanno. Which tells us how much recruitin' Shaka needs to do.

And Acker. I think it's funny that a few peeps suggested that McSteal come back to coach.
1. McNeal and Acker are a package deal, might as well get them both
2. WI hasn't legalized yet

I thought these were elite young college athletes who never ran out of gas.

In a single game is different than comparing 3 days rest vs a week rest.

Yeah, but you're not factoring in the height disparities of his teams. He often had the smallest team on the court which means you have to work harder to compensate for the lack of height up front.

Blowing a 13-point second half lead vs Washington in the 2010 tournament was brutal.
As for HAVOC ... Shaka hasn't run that defense in years. I don't expect we'll see it next season either.
