Obviously MU does not have to announce this and it's not publically-available info as it would be at a public university, but any educated guess on length and $ value of contract? Thinking 5 years, between 10 and 15 million?

He was earning $3.2 million at Texas. I'd be surprised if he took much of a pay cut, if any.
This Ben Steele article indicates 6 years, snuck in at the end. I hadn't seen anything elsewhere, but hadn't looked closely.

If Steele is right, $20 MM over 6 would probably be the minimum. I'd guess $21MM/6 or $3.5/yr average annual value, fully guaranteed.
Wasn't Buzz getting $3.5 at the very end of his deal? And Wojo was getting what $2 million?
I wouldn't be shocked if the AAV is $3 million. Maybe six years for $18 million (I'd think $20 maximum). As much as we love Shaka, let's also reflect that he was on the hot seat at Texas, with several boosters likely attempting to getting him axed in the coming weeks. He kept talking about fit yesterday, which I'm sure is part coach-speak, but also some truth there. If Shaka did get dismissed, he would have wanted to go to a school he was comfortable with. Marquette, very much so, was a great fit. I would be surprised if we were paying the exact same amount up front (especially since there is likely an escalator over the duration). Maybe he tied any lost immediate salary to bonuses (i.e. tournament appearances, BE championships, etc.).
Would be curious to see the details. Regardless, it is clear Marquette made a strong financial commitment to men's basketball in the past 7-14 days. Very supportive and positive to see.
Its 3-3.5 million for 6 years. The buyout was only the cost his assistants salaries if they are not retained by Texas or hired by MU.
MU will likely hire one member of this staff. Cody Hatt. He's been with Shaka since VCU. No clue who the other two members of staff will be.
I wouldn't be surprised to see KT Turner also retained. He had 2 years left on his deal, so Shaka/MU will be paying him regardless. Seems like the most likely Smart assistant to be next in line for a HC gig.
Thanks gentlemen.
