What are some things you've been wrong about that stand out in your mind in hindsight? A few of mine
*I thought Buzz was a horrendous coach after the Dayton loss his first year. The team looked awful and I thought it was going to unravel. I was very glad to be wrong.
*I thought Jamail Jones and Erik Williams were a slam dunk NBA prospects. Even worried about them leaving early before they got to MU. I was very, very wrong (much to my chagrin).
*I thought Reggie Bush was going to be a first ballot hall of famer and it was insane that he didn't go #1 overall. Not even close.
*I thought Josh Allen was going to be a colossal bust, one of the all-time funniest top QB picks. Wrong.
I thought Porter Moser and Dennis Gates were the best candidates to replace Wojo. Now that Shaka is on board at MU, I hope to look back and laugh at myself like I do at the stuff above!
I thought Wojo would be a great defensive coach and have gritty teams.
I'll tell you when my wife calls back. It will be a long post.

😂
I thought Reggie Smith was going to do great things at Marquette
For many of us, including me, it would take us less time to say what we were right about!
I never thought Vander would ever be anything other than a defensive player. Glad is junior season proved me wrong.
I got "Chaos" confused with "Havoc".
Never thought Josh Allen would be a great QB with his historically low completion percentages throughout high school and college. This past year, his highest completion percentage was.....in the NFL. That's almost unheard of.
I thought all those crazy posts would have lasted until dinner.
I was wrong for thinking I could avoid moderating during NCAA games.
If you had a good post disappear, apologies.
I admit it ... I thought Wojo would get it done.
I thought Joey would be a stud. I thought the Panthers would win SB 50 easily. I thought Disney stock would be down for years due to the pandemic.
(Oh, and thank you, rocky.)
Wojo would be back next year.
Knows everything and is never wrong.
Oh wait, I thought this thread was things TAMU was wrong about.

I thought Juan Anderson would be an NBA player based on his mix tape.
Then, after his Marquette career ended, I thought he would have zero chance of ever playing in the NBA.

I didn't think MU admin would pull the trigger.
I thought Izzo would get more out of Joey.
I thought Tiger would never win another major.

Has your wife been married before? I might know her.
1) I never thought Marquette would fire Wojo.
2) I thought the 2003 game against Kentucky would be a blowout ........ by Kentucky.
3) I thought we would vigorously defend our 1977 Natty in the 1978 NCAA.
4) The Chicago Bears would find a quarterback by now.
5) Wojo was a good hire.
6) Theo would dominate.
I thought Jalen Rose, Chris Webber and Juwan Howard were "thugs".
I thought Joe Fulce was a better recruit than Jimmy Butler
I thought Rod Grosse would gain weight
I thought Krunti Hester was a solid recruit
I thought Joey Hauser would go pro after his Sophomore year.
I thought Howard would drop 60 in a game
After a month away from Scoop I thought it would be a good idea to take a peek...

(Oh, and thank you, rocky.)
I wasn't on the Joey "Baby" Hauser bandwagon.
My prediction was that Brendan Bailey, would outperform Baby by his junior season, and be the team's leading scorer.
I've made my share of bad predictions over the years.
I thought Chartouney was the missing link we needed
I didn't think he would be a "difference maker" or whatever word was used to describe him, but I thought Froling would be a lot better than he was
In my younger days I called for Buzz to be fired after losing a late lead to Georgetown. We earned a 6 seed that year IIRC
In the days leading up to Hausergate I described the riff between Wojo/Markus and the Hausers as "making a mountain out of a molehill"
I thought Markus would get drafted
I thought Danny Manning was a good candidate for our job back in 2014
In my really younger days I thought margarine was superior to butter
I pronounced queue as quay until college
I described Bouknight and Nate Waston as overrated prior to the start of this season
I thought Apple was a sell at $95

I have a good friend who was an honor student in college, with a great job and 4 kids, who pronounced "pseudo" as "sway-doe" well into his late 20s cause "that's how it looked" and it was a hard habit to break.
He also nearly got pummeled by a MLB on our football team when we were 19 cause he was excitedly talking to the player, while inebriated, about a play he made the last weekend and pronouncing his last name "B-you-sing" instead of the proper "bee-sing" for the same reason as above and Busing thought he was mocking him

I sold Square at 80 last year. Still made 100%...but damn.
With all of their age and experience, and returning everyone from a team that shared the B10 title last year, I thought Wisconsin would be a top 10 team and one of the top teams in the Big 10 this season.
I thought Henry would love MU, stay all four years, and lead us to a Natty.
I thought Cheatham would break the scoring record...
...and everything in Retire0's signature.

Jesus, Herman. Save this for the professional-patient confidentiality situation.
1. Ed Morrow would be real good in a Marquette uniform.
2. Wisconsin would never make it to a final four with their slow pace of play.
3. Buzz would never leave us

Man. Haha. That one hurts. Woof.
I thought Wojo was the guy.
I was convinced Wade was coming back for one more year.
Thought Jimmy Butler was a role player after his sophomore year.

I think it was $90, Smuggles.
And that was two splits ago, too, IIRC.
But I give you props for showing some nice self-deprecating humor there, my friend.
And I'm glad I bought more instead of selling!
I thought Jon Snow was going to end up on the Iron Throne.
I also thought Clay Aiken was going to beat Reuben Studdard in season 2 of American Idol.
Finally I was certain New Coke and Crystal Pepsi were sure fire hits.

I can't remember if I thought that, but I do know that I thought he'd be a role player at best in the NBA.
At the end of the 1982-83 season when Doc Rivers left Marquette early to enter the NBA draft, I told everyone who would listen, that it was a terrible mistake and that he'd never be more than a journeyman NBA player.
I really nailed that sucker, didn't I.
I thought the Brewers would win the '82 World Series. And that the Cubs wouldn't win one in my lifetime.

I thought at one time Dodd's board had actual good MU information and he was not a shrill for the administration.
So many. Recent one, proclaimed after the NCAA debacle against Murray State that Ja Morant would be a huge bust in the NBA, that we made him look far better than he was.

I knew better on the first one and am confident we have about 100 years before the second one happens again.
I thought MU admin did not have the balls to pull the trigger on Wojo.
I thought Wojo might get the job done up until Hausergate. That did it for me.
I thought Msjerus would be a good coach at MU. He ended up a great coach for other schools.
I thought Moser was the #1 choice for MU. Think he will be outstanding wherever he goes.
I thought Duane Wilson would be a great one at MU after his 1st year. Great kid don't know what happened there
I thought O'Neil would be at MU for a long time
I did not see Shaka as a reasonable blip on MUs radar. Glad he was.
Never realized how great a player DADE was until Ky. Game

He owes Wojo big-time!
- I thought the step up to the Big East would be too much coming off those NIT berths and expected us to generally be a bottom half team in 2005.
- I thought Buzz would stick here.
- I thought Henry Ellenson would stick in the NBA as a poor man's Kevin Love.
- I thought Joe Chartouny would be the missing link to unlock our 2019 potential.
- I thought Wojo would be here in 2021-22, even as I was writing my parts of the Case Against article.
- I thought Goodman was drunk when the first name out of his mouth was Shaka after our job opened. I felt like him and Oats (the second name) were unattainable dreams.
There's so much more...just ask my wife.

Chartouny ... ugh. I was wrong about him, too. I didn't think he'd be a star or anything, but a solid contributor. He did play a huge role in that Creighton win, though. We almost surely don't win that game if he didn't miss a wide-open layup, get his own rebound and score. Because of the miss, there was so little time left that it created the havoc that led to the botched inbound play by CU, the great pass by Markus, the incredible shot by Sam, and Markus going all Video Game Markus in OT. So at least Chartouny gave us that!

I firmly believed that Wojo would figure out how to work Henry Ellenson into a competent offense. I felt that despite the awkward start with a ton of hero ball with Henry in 2015, that and we would be a force to be reckoned with in the 2nd half of the season once everything started clicking. I was wrong, and that was the last year that I watched every MU game.

I mean we won for a brief 1-2 month period which, admittedly, was exciting for a brief 1-2 month period. But it was by no means "entertaining basketball" for either of those seasons to watch historically high usage as you originally said. Or really any Wojo season. But, no need to relitigate. It's over, he was a poor coach, results were poor, he was fired. I can move on if you can.
I was wrong about Walter Downing. I thought he'd give us enough to return to the big dance. First transfer that I was ecstatic about. Instead he played in two NIT tournaments wearing a MU uniform.

I said: "You missed some very entertaining basketball in 2016-17 and 2018-19" ... and I wasn't even talking to you. But you couldn't resist going back on the attack. What's funny is that in this post of yours, you actually admitted being excited by it.
And you know what? It's OK to admit that you enjoyed it when we were winning 20 of 22 games to move into the Top 10. It's OK to only rip Wojo 99% of the time. If you don't go on the attack 100% of the time, nobody will confuse you with a Projo, I promise.
Sir
I was a big time Sir Walter fan and he never panned out. Great guy, but I was 100% wrong on him as well.
In 2001 I predicted that the Big 10 would win a National Championship sometime in the 21st century.
I can't think of many hot takes I've had. Right or Wrong.
I'll get one going for the future though.
In 3 years, only the most irrational of fans will not be on board with Shaka leading MU. By year 5 we will have legitimate proven results. Second weekend tourney success, BE success, BE tourney success. Perennial top 3 team in the league.
I don't remember the exact date, but sometime around January 2020, I told my daughter, "there's one of these new viruses every few years...everyone gets all worked up, but they never really amount to anything...don't worry about it."
