Forget about who will get the gig. Are your views similar, better, or worse to Scholl's with regards to what you expect from the MU program? To paraphrase Scholl said competing for BEast titles, winning NCAA tourney games, and "making the occasional "run to a F4. Let's break this down a bit.
In 2011, 12, 13 I felt MU was on the verge of something special. Perhaps not Nova special, but in my head I felt strongly we were in a position to field a program that was consistently a top 4 or 5 seed and a lock for the NCAA tournament. I absolutely thought this was sustainable. Fast forward 8 to 10 years later and we have been on a putrid path to purgatory.
Well in my mind? That ends now. I am confident we will get it back quickly and the greatness of this program will shine. Whatever reservations you have about whoever is hired you will support this person and give them a chance to seize the opportunity. Whatever recruits we lose or players transfer we will handle it just as Michael Corleone handled Solozzo and Barzini. In other words we can do this, and we will get back on track.
My personal expectations, once the dust settles, is that MU is once again a consistent tournament fixture. I'm talking top 5 seed range, and dangerous of winning the whole freaking thing. Greatness is coming people. That's my take.
It starts and ends with the hire.
Muggsy - this is all possible. But this hire is the future of the program. Some has to pick us up from the depths we have sunken to and build. Long way up. So, big hire.
I agree but I think there's excellent candidates. There are two that I wouldn't choose but I will keep that to myself. I feel if we go one of 5 ways we will be successful.
Expect to be in the NCAA every year. Goal should be a consistent top 10 team nationally that competes for the Big East championship.
I want a nasty ass team that takes no prisoners and is feared. Like the olden days. Nobody wanted to play Marquette because, heck, we'd kick ass and laugh about it as we did.
I want a rivalry with Jay Wright molded in the notion that both Villanova and Marquette want each other the way Frazier and Ali wanted each other. Or the way the Yankees and Red Sox want each other. I want to be able to beat Villanova without storming the court because it is expected we will beat Villanova.

I like the way you think dgies!!
When did Al get back in town?? Interesting analogy coaching hire and mob hit
I have different levels of expectations for different candidates. It will also depend on how much of the roster and recruits will stay. Im anticipating at least two years will be required to make the tourney. Possibly three depending on the situation
Hang a banner & schedule a reunion
In 5 years a coach should be able to Hang a Banner (at the Al)
Sweet 16
Conference Title
Conference Tourney Championship
You gotta have a reason to have a reunion. We gave Steve 7 years and not one of his teams will ever be invited back to be honored at halftime.
Kevin, Mike, Buzz and even Tom Crean have been able to clear this threshold.
A team who hustles, plays fast and aggressive defense, has lots of fun, fun to watch play, actually has some plays or a system and wins throughout the year and sometimes in March
Too much to ask for?
Don't care who is coaching if I get most of that
