There is only one coach that Marquette has a reasonable chance of hiring that you could say with a straight face could win a Championship in the next 5 to 10 years. That is Rick Pitino. All the other coaching candidates will simply lead to more of the same; mediocre results with the occasional sweet 16 run.
"But he doesn't run a clean program....." Who cares? Louisville's program wasn't "clean" when he was there. Does anyone care about that now? Of course not. UNC was running no show classes for their players. Does anyone care? No.
Rick Pitino is a proven winner every college stop he has been at. With Marquette's war chest, he could have us competing nationally in a year or two. You want to win? Well, sometimes you have to get a little dirty.
Rick Pitino has touched the iron a lot. I think he knows not to touch it again. He is the only man for the job if your expectation for Marquette is to become a National Contender.
Mr. Wonderful is present, but where is Mr. Fabulous? Last I heard, he had a high-payin' gig at Chez Paul.
I am in the Rick Pitino as our first call camp
For the love of God, please don't.

Mr. Fabulous died in a high-speed boating intertube accident on Lake Huron last year. Please be more sensitive.

Agreed. MU immediately becomes relevant again the instant a Rick Pitino hire is announced.

The old "I'm sure he's learned his lesson even though he's never shown remorse" argument. As someone referenced in another thread, he's a scorpion.
My POV is that if a person or school is fine with cheating and being dirty just to win on the basketball court it says a lot about how they approach other aspects of life.
I think Beilein could get us there as well. Unsure on Matta or if that's even realistic. Everyone else for that timeframe I agree.

Would it last more than 15 seconds though?
I would be shocked if Pitino is on our list. But I was also shocked we fired Wojo.

Pitino would be worth it for the salt from this forum alone.
The success wouldn't hurt either

Honestly kind of shocked at the # of people on this board willing to sell their soul for Pitino.

We did have a nationally successful program that wasn't 100% clean and decided that wasn't for us.
Personally I would not hire anyone over 60 for this job.

Well, I'd guess that Matta would be at least as realistic as Pitino or Beilein!
This thread has been fun.
I am all for it, but I don't see it happening.
I also thought there was very little chance Wojo would get fired this offseason, so what do I know!?
Pitino would certainly be fun. Feels a heck of a lot more likely now that Wojo is gone - something I didn't foresee the admin having the balls to do. But still very unlikely.

Pitino would get the job done but would really be squirmy. MU would need to hire a burly priest as his bodyguard to follow him around 24/7 Doubt if he would be interested. Would have to have a strong voidable morals clause in his cotract.

Never been a projo. Was very close in year 5 but we all know what happened. But I was one of the last to join the Nojos. Better late than never?

Well, if Marquette wanted to make a huge hire Rick would be it. This would be his last stop. I never thought Wojo would get the heave ho so who knows. Personal life aside, the dude can flat out coach. My guess is he would retain most of the players. What kid would not want to play for a legend. Sure would be interesting.

Love the Caddyshack adaptation! I'll pass on Wardle. I'm a Moser fan. Winthrop guy seems interesting too, but that UMass stunt is concerning.

Pitino, in response to rumors he would take another big-time coaching job, recently said something to the effect of:
I plan on finishing my career coaching at a small, Catholic college.
I mean we aren't large, are we?
