Title: Pitino has Iona dancing in year 1
Post by: Babybluejeans on March 13, 2021, 07:48:37 PM
He may have questionable ethics but you can't question Rick Pitino's college coaching skills. Taking Iona, a 9th seed in the MAAC conference tournament, to the Tourney in his first year there.

They also went dancing in 2016, 17, 18, and 19 and were 6-3 in season. Not really that big of an upset.

He's been there before.  So has Iona.

I'm predicting a quick exit. One and done. Two at best.

His selection party may have some interesting attendees.   Depending on who handles the invites.

It's a nice accomplishment, but he didn't take over a DePaul quality team. They have been in their championship a bunch and I think made the tournament the last few years.

There's some hyperbole in the media (Goodman for one) that is building this story up quite a bit.

No, but last year was an uncharacteristically bad Iona team. Cluess regularly won 20+ games a year. But they were well below .500 following his departure. Even still, Pitino took over a weak team from last season that then lost their 2 leading scorers and rebounders.  It's a bit played up, but he still did a great job, as he does

Ethics?
We can get a waiver on that issue.
