So Xavier is out of the Big East Tournament and hovering right on the NCAA bubble. In normal times, all hopes would hinge on the Selection Committee, but word out of Cincinnati is that they are looking for last minute options to bolster their resume in hopes of capturing an at-large spot. Cracked Sidewalks looks at some viable options for the Musketeers that are worth calling last-minute. We also update the S-Curve with results from last night and COVID alterations from this morning:

MU is mentioned. If they played us at FiServ could be a q2
MU could get back to .500
So win win

They'd be stupid to play us. Needed a buzzer beater to win game one and we cleanly won a close one the second time around. Not a good matchup for steeles team it would seem
I think SLU is the best bet. Another desperate team that needs a resume boost and is probably on the wrong side of the bubble. If they're looking in league, start with the Villanova team they never played, or go to Carnasecca where you can at least get a Q1 game.
There has been some discussion that there is an NCAA bylaw that says teams already eliminated from their conference tourneys cannot schedule more games. I am unsure if that is correct, but it's been reported by credible people.

It's a covid year, screw it! Roll the ball out and hoop.

Maybe trying to just make some extra bucks from media rights then and they'd call it and "exhibition"?

I'd prefer MU coaches own the transfer portal. Roster composition is MU's biggest opportunity and our early demise should give us an edge. Plenty of playing time to sell.

Even if teams could play, it gets a bit interesting, especially this year. SLU was a top 25 team four straight weeks prior to their long COVID-19 pause where much of their team had the virus. Then they had a slow re-start. Many bracketology people haven't factored that in too much, instead focusing more on lack of games.
But if you take a look, Palm has SLU in, Lunardi has them in today If Ole Miss loses, Bracketville has them in as one of Utah St. or Colorado St. has to lose, etc...and there could be a few teams that might not be able to play. It could go either way for them.
So schedule or not schedule if it were allowed would be an interesting decision for some. I know SLU would play them or others. (Interestingly enough, SLU Men and Women's soccer teams recently played Xavier's teams, meeting them in Indy for the games.)
Herman your posts are generally well thought out but I think someone wrote this for you.
Have us reassemble the team for another meaningless game? You must not have seen the G-Town performance. This team has checked out. Theo had trouble walking to the scorers table. Koby and Greg have moved on, as has Jose at least mentally.
Fly to X tomorrow so they could pound us as a favor to them in their faint hopes of securing a bid?
I agree all energies these days should be spent recruiting the transfer portal!

SLU has been trying to do the same, but risk is great for each of those teams.
Both need to be praying SH and USU lose tonight. Boise State already helped them out.
Seems like St. John's would be a better opponent for Xavier than MU would be. MU is done - they have nothing to play for at this point. St. John's OTOH is in the same boat as Xavier and could bolster their own resume. And this matchup would benefit the BE if it could vault one more of its teams into the tourney.
I wouldn't doubt that some of the MU players have already headed home.

This. 1,000 times this.
As noted above, these games likely won't be happening. This is from St Louis reporter Stu Durando: It doesn't look like SLU will be adding a game because – plot twist – a source says the NCAA has a bylaw that prohibits teams from scheduling games after they are eliminated from their conference tournaments.
Well, it was a good idea for a minute there.
Looks like COVID attrition is going to move bubble teams up more than one last game would have anyway.

These teams testing today should be fine.
With the new 5 healthy player rule. So long as the rest of the team tests good by next week.
The Committee should just tell them to go ahead and play if they want, and then ignore the result.
That must be a new-ish rule. Recalling St. Mary's added a regular-season game after eliminated from WCC tourney a few years back. Not finding it in quick Ken Pom check, but I'm pretty sure that was team that did it.
Found it - St. Mary's played Eastern Washington in 2009 Friday after being eliminated by Gonzaga in WCC title game Tuesday. Beat EW by 20. Ended up NIT 2 seed, lost in quarters to San Diego St.
