I referenced this interview in a thread thread a lifetime ago (probably last week) but between Koby, DJ, and Marcus' very public dealings with mental health/depression Marquette seems to be doing more for the student athlete in this area than almost any other program.

IMHO that is more important than our issues on the court. Doesn't mean Wojo shouldn't go but this aspect of the program should stay regardless.

More important meaning what?  That we should recognize student athletes can often have depression and anxiety issues?  Or that MU has done a solid job with a good support system?  Health is always the most important thing, both physical and mental,.  There's never a situation where it isn't the most important.

We are in agreement........ more important meaning if you had a choice of winning a game or set of games vs. ensuring your players health you'd take the L/L's every time.

HOWEVER, there are a specific few here who lose the real meaning of Marquette as an institution and always focus on the teams performance. Stating that there are issues because of DJ's turnovers (without considering his journey), or Koby's sporadic performance (without considering his personal struggles or that he had an f'n nervous breakdown during a game this year), or that they look forward to booing at games next year (without understanding the impact that has on the players and recruits), or scoff that COVID may have effected our program differently than others (ignoring that everyone deals with adversity differently and maybe the complete isolation was more difficult for our team), is very much not how I learned to look at complex situations.

A critical eye, like you, is one thing. An unrelenting damning of the program without considering anything off court, like others, is another.

I've certainly been quite critical as well about many of our issues.  I do think booing or rooting against the team is totally wrong but the nature of fans is myopic and at times irrational.  Especially during the games.  I do think we are all capable of stepping back and understanding the bigger picture of life  but in the moment fans (I included) generally are fixated on the game
