Title: Any chance any senior returns for the "Bonus" year next year?
Post by: DarkWarrior on March 07, 2021, 10:02:56 AM
I would love to see Cain and Theo for one more season. Any chance any of these guys stay for one more season?

Seems like none.

Theo confirmed last night hes done.

Koby aint coming back.

That would leave Jamal, and that seems unlikely. Though I would like him back.

Theo is gone.

I'd like Jamal back.

That probably means only Koby will return.

5J seems to think someone is coming back.

I think the most likely would be Jamal staying to play another season with Greg. Not necessarily expecting it, but that one would surprise me the least.

Feels like they wouldn't have pumped up the Senior Night ceremonies as much if someone was coming back. Although, maybe they've just decided to wait until after the season to discuss.

Koby and Jamal might still be weighing their options. But even if one or both had already decided to stay, it would have been strange (and unfair) to downplay the ceremonies with Theo leaving.

As an aside .. a friend of mine's son plays D1 football.  He was a red-shirt, so a 5th year senior.  Their season was not good, so he told his coach he was coming back .. he "didn't want to end his football career this way."

Koby should realize it is time to move on to his next stage of his life. Good luck, Koby

I will say, football is different.  Assuming said son is not an NFL prospect, there isn't the vast network of post-NCAA playing options. The vast majority of starters, even at P5 schools, find jobs outside of the NFL field after graduation (I worked with a 2nd team All-Big 10 QB at one of my first job out of college and worked with another All conference WR who went to one training camp and then got a masters the next year before entering the work world).  Meanwhile, I'd estimate 75-80%+ starters at P6 basketball schools play abroad or G League.  I could probably count on one hand the number of guys who played under Wojo and got real minutes (not walk ons) who didn't play post-grad.

Dodds says Koby is gone as well as Theo.   Jamal is interesting given the Greg connection.  TBD.

I agree it would be Jamal, and I
would not be shocked, if it happen.

A 6th year or Enterprise?  I'd pick a 6th year too.

On the contrary, the kid is smart, he'll have his masters in bio-med, planning on going to med school if he doesn't get drafted (he has a real shot.)

Pretty awesome to go to school for 6 years and have it all paid for.

I was kind of hoping that my daughter would play another year (or two...I think she might technically have two years of eligibility remaining since her senior season was completely cancelled). Her coach invited her to stay, but the program wouldn't fund the additional year. They don't even fund their full NCAA allotment of 12 scholarships, so it wasn't surprising at all that they wouldn't fund a fifth year for her. She considered it briefly, but decided it was time to move on to the "real world" where she has a job waiting.

There's a scene at the beginning of the Sylvester Stallone "Get Carter" remake where John C. McGinley says to Sly, "You need to take care of business or the business will take care of you.  The BUSINESS will take care of you.  The business will take care of YOU."

I think the same quote could be applied to Theo returning.  "Theo will not return next year.  THEO will not return next year.  Theo will not return NEXT YEAR."

So could people stop asking if Theo's going to return next year?  He's not coming back.  He confirmed it himself.  Jesus.

I'm hoping Theo is back with Marquette this summer in the TBT.

Lol.  I have said multiple times I have no inside info - I just assumed one of the three would return as I don't think any of them are getting rich playing basketball.  I still think its possible, though Theo confirmed he's gone, so I am less confident than I was a few weeks ago.

He blatantly stated he is ready to move on in his media availability before the X game.  So, unfortunately, Theo is gone.

I'll miss that one defensive rebound every game. Hard to replace.

Too snarky too soon?

No inside info.  I just have a gut feeling that if Cain believes he will still start next year he will come back. Right now the odds of him starting next year, if he returns, is really good.

Perfect timing. I'd insert a chef's kiss gif, but it's a pain on my phone.
