We were sloppy in stretches and probably should have won going away but I like the way we punched back after they tied it late. Props to our Seniors. I would say we're in the best possible position, perhaps ever, for s 9 seed in the BET. Get the W on Wed and you just never know.
Agreed Muggs.
Wins are good. Let's beat Georgetown. Let's Go Marquette!
A 9 seed that should be a 4 seed
Nice work woj
agree, good win, this game is a microcosm of the season- should be much better than they are.

Yup, it's a shame this team won't dance (as an at large). Was very doable this year.

I do agree with you on this one DoctorV. I think about the things we could have shored up by now, the overall pieces, and I'm quite certain we should be closer to 18/19 wins and in the top 4.

+1, Muggsy.
Enjoyed the way the guys fought tonight.
For that matter, pretty much all season.
When we lost, it wasn't because we mailed it in or didn't play hard. I know that doesn't earn gold stars and rainbows at this level, but some teams do just that.
Scruggs is really a nice player.
I know it's a good win thread, but turnovers (first half especially) were mind boggling. I'm starting to think we should NEVER throw it into the post (hyperbole...)
No doubt the turns are infuriating , and 90% unforced
The key to us hopefully playing well and making a run in the BET is Carton. We have been saying this all year and it hasn't changed. There are times where he forces, plays too fast, and frankly doesn't need to at all. Changing speeds is a valuable attribute and he also must recognize where to go with the rock when the defense collapses.
When it comes to the 2G Wojo has somewhat of a pickle. Greg really struggles defensively but changes the geometry of our offense with his ability to stick the trifecta.
The way to maximize Koby offensively imo requires far less dribbling and more cutting to the rim or passes on the high screen. He's not a good one on one player off the bounce. It's always hard right and his dribble is too high. How do we maximize GE defensively? It's a tough one but he needs to work much harder and sacrifice his body on help D.
As for our bigs? Again, they really need to slow down and simply protect the dribble assing their way in. Be patient establishing position and use basic fundamental footwork. There is zero reason to be in a rush, patience. There is no reason vs smalls that all of our bigs can't be very effective down low. Patience, patience, patience.

Agreed - but also quicker decision making. Some possessions they spend so much time trying to work it into the post, and only realize at the last second they're going to have to heave up a shot (or worse...never realizing...TO). More communication about shot clock and a "plan B" would be wise.

Agree!!
Muggs, I thought Koby played a solid, controlled game tonight. 4 assists, no silly turnovers, seemed to really let the game come to him. Played pretty good defense most of the night.
That's what we need out of Koby, and then get the shooting out of Elliott. Combined, they can add up to a nice player at that position.
Everything you say about Carton is true. There have been games where he has been the best player on the court - games that included guys like Zegarowski. Sometimes, there are only 3-4 minute stretches where that's the case. Some teams are going to be well-coached and have good defensive players on him, so it's not fair of us to expect him to put up huge numbers every game. But when he's strong with the ball, taking smart shots, exploding to the hoop, and being disruptive on D with his quick hands, he's a very good basketball player. We need that next week.

Yes. The combined Koby/GE performance was solid. As I have said before this team would be exponentially better with a 2nd playmaker. It puts a tremendous amount of pressure on DJ and there are times he feels he has to force. He's also really struggled with his jumper.
If we could just find a way to cut the unforced turns it would be enormous. We only had 4 total in th he 2nd half. I was surprised X didn't press at all but I guess they got into foul trouble. It's super frustrating because we are talking what....10 point swing minimum per game?
Was anyone at the game tonight? If so, how was the atmosphere?

I was there. It was dead. I would just say it was good to be back at a live sporting event.
