Post by: DoctorV on February 19, 2021, 10:17:57 PM
Should be playing this upcoming Wednesday night 2/24.

If nothing else, it'll be fun to play a storied program. I'll be glad if this happens

Imagine the logistics of a "scheduled" game, let alone an unscheduled game with Covid.

It will be interesting to hear how this came together.  Also will be interesting to see where this will be televised.  My guess is that we will see a lot of grainy film from 1977 and a lot of Wojo floor slapping.

ESPN2 has an open college basketball window from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday. The best options they currently have to move in there are Citadel/Furman or Manhattan/Siena. I'd bet that's the window and channel.

Maybe UNC will go into Dean Smith's 4 corner offense. Oh wait! There's a shot clock nowadays, isn't there?

Love that we are playing them.

This is a really well done job by the Athletic Department and Wojo. Couldn't have been easy, but a really quality game on short notice.

I just wish it would have happened when I had a chance to go. Got to go to the Dean Dome once and it was a blast.

Yeah, any other year, I'd be making the drive to Chapel Hill and going to this game. Oh well ... still will be fun to watch us beat 'em on ESPN!

It would be an opportunity to see two former MUBB recruiting targets, Caleb Love, and, RJ Davis. (MU's chances were much better with Davis)

Both Love and Davis are examples of high level recruits that take a season to get experience, ups and downs, before possibly making a bigger leap their 2nd season. I use this example to bring it back to Marquette, Lewis, Garcia, Carton. Not having a good enough returning supporting cast has been a bigger MUBB issue. (It also has been an issue at UNC.)

Love 28 Minutes a game
Davis 23 Minutes a game.

Two point guards sharing the court at  the same time at times, and sometimes not.

Neither have shot the ball well. Love averaging 11 and 4, Davis 8 and 2.

Love of course had the big game vs Duke. It's interesting because Love grew up wanting to attend Duke, was recruited by Coach K, but Jeremy Roach was also recruited by them and committed first. So Love chose UNC, also his dad's favorite. (He wanted to play point guard in college.)

I will be 100 Percent rooting for Marquette in the game versus UNC .

Keys to winning are:

1. Justin back in the lineup. We need him to bang on the boards versus UNC frontline.
2. Limit Turnovers.
3. Move the Ball and take quality shots . Don't put up bad shots early in the shot clock.
4. Continue with Greg Elliott starting and Jamal providing bench strength.
5. Dawson and DJ get off to good starts.
6. Koby get physical with UNC guards. Show them what life is like in the Big East

I think our guys can go down to Chapel Hill and get a win with no fans in the Dean Dome.

My wife and I are thinking about trying to get to NC for the game if we can somehow get a couple of the few tickets available. If anyone here has or finds info regarding admittance, please PM me. I will be searching the net but any ideas are welcome. We have had both shots of Pfizer so not worried about Covid.

I will be in Charlottesville on Wednesday for an afternoon appointment with my cardiologist. Maybe I can reschedule so that it will be only about a 2 1/2 hr drive from our home rather than 3 1/2 hr. from Cville but if she knew that I was planning to go to a bball game she might tell me to stay home! Maybe I will ask her how safe I am for a bout of stress.

Anyone else going to try to go?

Wow, this is awesome.  Happy to admit I was completely wrong about our willingness to schedule a competitive game during the buy week.  Even though UNC is down this year, it took stones for Wojo and the Athletic Department to make this happen.  Props to them.

Should be a fun, competitive game pitting a UNC team with a lot to prove against a Marquette squad who's fighting for a last chance to get back in the Tournament conversation.  Think this will be a memorable game and very much look forward to watching.

Watching North Carolina vs louisville game

North Carolina has length..
6'4, 6'5, 6'8, 6'10 and 6'10
Davis and sharpe off the bench have talent.
They are the best rebounding team in acc

North Carolina needs the game for a ncaa berth.

Marquette will have to play very well to be in the game.

I am glad we're playing the game, but it won't be easy!

My very first thought was, "Can I go to this game?"

But I've decided that it's not worth the effort in a pandemic -- Charlotte is a 3 hour drive from Chapel Hill. I'm not even sure if they're letting in fans; I think I remember that they aren't but maybe they've updated that.

I'm already looking forward to the pre-Thanksgiving event in Charleston next season, though.

I am watching the UNC Lville game and see that they are playing in a gym rather than an arena and there are no fans whatsoever. So....it was a real stretch to begin with but there's absolutely no way. UNC is blowing out Lville. Let's hope that makes them over confident on Wednesday.

Except that's not what I or just about any other Scoopers are saying. We want our alma mater to win basketball games because we like to see our alma mater win basketball games.

You, on the other hand, are actively rooting for them to lose. And not just now -- you've been doing it all season. Congratulations! You must be so happy we've lost more than we've won. That's a real "achievement" for you.

And if Wojo returns next season, you will spend the entirety of it rooting for your "favorite team" to go 0-31. It's a great way to go through life. Enjoy!

According to the website, it is Thu 11/18, Fri 11/19 and Sun 11/21.

https://espnevents.com/charleston-classic/

Field reportedly includes Marquette, West Virginia, Clemson, Temple, Boise State and St. Bonaventure, two others.

I looked up the 2019 title game and tip-off was 8:30 p.m. Kinda sucks, because it means one more overnight, but as you said, Charleston's a pretty fun place to stay. Great eating town, excellent brewery (Edmund's Oast), and just a cool vibe.

We've already booked our hotel room with a cancel-able reservation.

Such a myopic POV.

Obviously I want Marquette to win. But it's been proven that we can't win the way we should with this coach. It's also been at least indicated that the BOT is looking for ANY reason to justify retaining Wojo. Those two facts combined mean the only thing that can bring the program back to relevance is losing to the point where we force the BOT's hands. Don't blame me, blame the complacent Board or Wojo - who should know by now he's generally overstayed his welcome.

Blame others for your own outlook. Beautiful.

You control your own actions, thoughts and words. If we lose Wednesday, you'll be happy. If we lose big, you'll be giddy. Bravo!

What this team lacked from the get go was tude.
I'm seeing it developing, good for them.  This kind of a move develops character.
Our end of season winning streak begins.

Hope your right, these kids play hard and never seem to Give up.  It would be a nice reward for them and I hope that most of us would like to see it happen.

Yeah, Tarheels are having a down year...for them. But not as chitty as ours. Figurin' on an ass kickin', hey?

Sure has the makings of a butt whipping!

Maybe you'll get the result you want and you'll really be able to rip your alma mater's coach and players. How fortunate for you that would be!

Did UNC score 99 points tonight against Louisville?
Great, we have them just where we want them, coming off a blow out win.

Power rankings I use would have UNC -8.5 .

It will be interesting to hear how this came together.  Also will be interesting to see where this will be televised.  My guess is that we will see a lot of grainy film from 1977 and a lot of Wojo floor slapping.

Jordan Brand schools, open TV slot, both teams need games/wins.

"I'm kinda disappointed that I won't get any boos, cuz that's what I'm used to when I go over there."

He was talking about the Dean Dome ... but might as well have been talking about his home arena.

If memory recalls, we were outscored 30-5 to end the first half that game.

MU hasn't played any team this year that even comes close to the athleticism and talent of UNC...even in this down year. We are at the bottom of a very down Big East. It is late February....not exactly Wojo's time.  This isn't 1977. This isn't Dean vs Al. This one I fear could get ugly.

As ugly as it got for Buzz, Jimmy, Jae, DJO, etc?

This would be the year to play ND, an ACC team that is ripe for the picking no matter how bad we are.  Their defense is horrendous.  Next year if Wojo gets canned and everyone leaves it will be an unfortunate time to have the home and home series.  Two more Ws by ND would be hard to take.  Too many in-laws went there.

I'm sure our representation of the Big East against the trashy ACC will set the record straight tomorrow night.

We will see. Buzz was a good coach and got his ass kicked. Wojo isn't a good coach. We will see.
