The sweet picture of Al in the "Blue and Gold Tie" thread reminded me of something I've been wondering about while watching MBB the last couple of months: will the majority of coaches ever go back to wearing suits and ties on the sideline? The practice of coaches dressing up has always seemed ridiculous to me. I suspect that a lot of coaches will resist going back and the quarter zip will become s new de facto coach's uniform.

Ok, that outfit is not something of Al's that should be copied.

Huggy Bear was ahead of the curve.
Curious when that pic was taken - everyone looks pretty dejected/concerned. The expert psychoanalysts on this board would probably deduce that Al had lost the team, and didn't know how to motivate them. Probably had crappy huddles too.
That is tremendous.
Side note, whose the white dude with the mustache? Surely that's a 30 year old man disguised as a college student.

I dunno, but he's rockin' the canvas Converse with light blue laces.

Don't have much memory of Barry. Sure do recall that season, however. So close.
Doc - great call on Barry Brennan. The name is familiar, and when you said it I connected the neurons and knew your were right.
He played very little, so just for kicks I looked up how little. As a senior in '75-'76, he played 52 minutes. For his career, he scored 14 points.

Yep. If they were looking that down at the end of a game, it woulda been either Minnesota or Indiana...our only 2 losses.

I don't think Dave was around when Bernard played.

He wasn't
C'mon man, I've spoken. Barry was from North Carolina and I remember hearing that his father was a friend of Al's. Hence, Barry (#10) was on the team, hey?

reminds me of the gold like 8 button suit that Huggins wore to the BEast tournament in (I think) '09. I can almost picture the conversation:
Admin: You have to wear a suit.
Huggy: No.
Admin: I'm not joking, if you wear the windbreaker we're firing you.
Huggy: Fine, but you're not gonna like it.
Edited to add: Found it!

I'm so glad to not be in a conference and have to root against Huggins, cause I love that dude. I've completely gotten over how much I hate him and his teams at Cincy. I've mentioned before that I met him at a bar in Morgantown not long after he took the WVU job, and he couldn't have been nicer, funnier, and more complementary of Marquette as a program and it's fans.
Watching Huggins come out onto the court to comfort Da'Sean Butler (I think it was Butler... it's been a bit) really humanized him. He kind of transformed from that gargantuan bad guy coach of Cincy into something far more relatable in that moment.

Totally changed my perception of him. He had never shown the public his empathetic side until then.
I think someone on the Al McGuire a Facebook page reads scoop. There was a picture of Barry posted today.

Yep, it was a Butler. And that moment had the same affect on me; it gave me a totally different perspective of him as a person.
