Kansas 53
DePaul 53
with about 3 minutes to go..
DePaul up by 5 with 1:18 left. We have the makings of an upset which should help the BE conference RPI.
really impressive performance for the Blue Demons....nice crowd there too
ESPNews is breaking into the game. They're showing it live right now. DePaul by 4 with 48 seconds left.
you can stick a fork in Kansas. they're done! ;D
Great win for DePaul!! That should help our conference RPI!!
Let's take care of business tonight and not have any other upsets!
Way to go DePaul. Looks like we'll move higher in the rankings as long as we don't have a major meltdown tonight!!!
Great FT shooting down the stretch for DP. That is going to be critical for us in a few games as well this year. I agree, we don't want any upset winners of the B&G classic this year!
Awesome win for DePaul. They've got some players, but they just don't look in sync yet - even for most of this game.
I know not to read too much into one game, but Kansas loses to DePaul and Oral Roberts, but beats Florida? I just don't know what to make of the "top" teams yet. Just makes me happy Marquette has been able to keep a big round number in the losses column.
Oops, my mistake (that was Georgetown losing to OD I guess). I'll correct.
Just got off the phone with my Dad (DPU grad) who was at the game with his best friend, a KU alum. Said that the KU fans outnumbered the DePaul fans by about 2-1 at least, and that the entire south end zone of Allstate where there students sit only had probably a few hundred at most. Arena was half-empty by the last minute of the game with the KU fans clearing out when DePaul started hitting their free throws.
Good win for DePaul, though. They are more than capable of doing this regularly, but they're just horrifically inconsistent (Northwestern anyone?) Still somewhat befuddled, though, by the ambivilance of their students and alumni towards their program.
i was with a bunch of kansas alums/fans. my comment to them, "ouch, that's gonna leave a mark..."
bottom line: kansas went cold (they started missing everything) and couldn't stop the dribble penetration at exactly the same time that sammy mejia got hot.
on an interesting note - depaul has three interior players that all look like they are 6-8/9, 265+. they are a load and if they ever figure out how big they are, other teams are going to have problems. they all have a tendency to fall away from the basket on offense. but on the defensive end, when one of these guys ws used to anchor the paint in a 2-3 zone (in the middle of the second half), kansas started to have fits.
