I'll be honest, I think everyone is being way too negative right now, and can't see the forest for the trees.  I mean we have people talking about how we have no talent.  Just curious if there are others out there who aren't thrilled with the team right now but still have hope.

The conversation on this board mirrors the conversation in the seats, at the concession stands and at the bars last night.

The thought that this board is off kilter is ludicrisp (sp).

DamonKeys is right on. People were not happy on the way out of the Bradley Center last night. It was a laughable performance.

It actually reminded me of the listless performance against St. Louis in 2005 when we scored 39 points in a loss on our way to an embarrassing defeat to W. Michigan in the NIT.

Let's hope we're not on that same slippery slope. The way we were looking to the sidelines for play calls leads me to believe we might be.

fans of the program expect and deserve more. Rican is right. The talent on this team is overvalued and oversold. MU has and continues to give the coach $$$$ and freedom to stir the ship to the promised land.

I think people have a right to be frustrated.  IMO, this was a huge year for the program given our dreadful performance in both the BE and NCAA tournaments last year.  And that was frustrating due to our previous postseason appearances since 2003.  Last night, our lack of energy and overall poor performance was too reminiscent of our play in those tournaments.  The team needs to turn it around b/c that was a miserable game last night and fans have a right to expect more.

furthermore, after hearing how great every recruit is that TC gets a commitment from, we have a right to expect them to be good!  Last night we were run off our own court.

More great recruiting news to vent with.  2009 recruit PF Jake Cooley, 6ft 9, from Illinois, who was offered by MU, just committed to the Golden Domers.  Shrek's replacement.

I think people are being way too negative, just as people are usually way too positive after big wins (ND).  The truth of the matter is that MU is 6-4 in conference and still in a position to get a decent seed in the tourney with a strong finish.  Of course, based on last night, people are going to say there is no chance of that; but that is overreacting.  MU has had some tough losses but there is no reason to think the same team that hung with Duke, beat UW, and throttled ND cannot regain its form and show some resilency down the stretch.

I am also so sick of people who can only ever post negative comments.  I don't always like how our team plays and don't worship our coach; but they are OUR team.  Your attempts to slam to program/coach/players at every opportunity is sickening.  I can only imagine what your attitude is toward other things in life when your attitude toward something you are "cheering" for is this pessimistic.

Also, fans don't DESERVE anything!!!  You chose to attend and root for Marquette.  You did not elect anybody in a position of responsibility and have no say in how a private institution conducts business.  You may want things to change and can try to do things to elicit change, but you have no business saying you deserve anything as far as the basketball team goes.  Now I want Marquette to have a good basketball team, but the only thing I ever deserved from Marquette was the quality education I paid for; which I believe all of us received.

Jmayer,

I think there is a reason to be negative as the frustration stems not just from last night, but from how this team played so poorly down the stretch last year and how poorly they've performed since the ND game.  They were terrible at L-ville and UCONN and didn't play well at home against DePaul and S. Fla but won those game b/c they were playing DePaul and USF.  The win at Cincinnati gave me hope that we turned it around, but last nights game was abysmal.  On a message board about MU basketball, I think its right to share opinions even if those are negative.
As for "deserving" anything, I don't see where anyone said MU deserves a win.  But I think it is right for a fan who is emotionally engaged with how our MU bball team performs to be frustrated with our performance last night.  We came out flat in a huge contest to a big rival who destroyed us a few weeks ago.  While I did not necessarily expect a win, I did expect us to put up a fight and we didn't do that.  Instead, we were not competitive from the start and not worthy of being on ESPN and that's a shame.

I agree with your points KC, I am also very frustrated by our recent performances.  However, I still feel like a lot of the posts since last night have been too much of the "sky is falling" type.  MU still has plenty of games left on the schedule and I hope they can actually start to build some momentum towards the end of the year, something they have not always been the best at in the past.

I too expect MU to give a good effort, but I don't think I deserve anything from our program.  That is part of what being a fan entails--cheering your team on but not actually having any real rights surrounding what goes on.

please, its fun to be negative in not-so-great times like this (releases some frustration), but lets not become Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas fans who truly do believe they are better.  We have very talented players, but we are in the Big East and we just don't have the greatest balance.  People saying a player is faking his illness or that certain players just suck are ridiculous. If the next game ooze hits 12pts, James shoots 8-11 and fits hits 3 threes and mcneal steals the ball and cuts down on turnovers, everyone will simply turn a 180 like always.  We all expected a little too much this year, and undervalued the Big East.  We'll be okay...settle down a little and stop ripping on people's characters consistently for something as simple and as inevitable as losing.
