Title: Opening at -4.5 vs SHU
Post by: PGsHeroes32 on December 16, 2020, 02:51:47 PM
I kinda figured it would be around that but thought maybe we would be a bit underestimated.

Think that's a solid number for us at home against a quality not great opponent.

I feel pretty decent about tomorrows game.

Who is going to guard Mamu?

Don't let anyone else beat you.  Limit him the best you can and clamp down on the rest

He's gonna get his. Hopefully on the other end we can get him in some foul trouble. Otherwise just gotta limit guys like Rhoden and Cale.

Just look at him the wrong way and he might elbow you.  Get him ejected.  Problem is he will probably get a flagrant and a T, while your player will get a double T for him initiating a scuffle, then the refs will call him back to the court as he's crying in the locker room.

Oh wait, that's Powell.  But Mamu might punch someone so maybe.  And then Willard will blame it on the opponent who he's stepping over for losing his balance.

New Jersey has declared a weather State Of Emergency due to a nor'easter storm which is now in progress.
12-18 inches of snow in the forecast for Newark with very high winds through the overnight.
Warnings issued for power outages possible through the state.
Hopefully this does not cause team  travel issues and the game is played as scheduled

My guess is they are in Milwaukee already.

Cale always seems to go off against MU. God I hate the Hall so much.

Myles Cale scored 5 total points vs. Marquette last year. In 2 games.

In 2019 he scored 5 points in game one. 9 points in game two. 4 points in the BET game.

In 2018 he scored 3 points in game one and 3 points in game two.

I'm not sure who you are thinking of but it's not Myles Cale, lol.

If you like the over 144, grab it now, because it'll be up to at least 147 by tip.

With the exception of Dayton, I don't think any team got screwed over more by last year's shutdown than Seton Hall.  They had all the pieces for a deep tourney run—good guards, solid bigs, and Mamu.  If Willard ever assembles a better squad than that at SH, it would be an enormous accomplishment.

From what I've seen of them this year, they're not all that.  Guys like Rhoden and Cale are okay, Obiagu is decent but kind of just a bruiser like John, and although Mamu is their best player, he's far too emotional and it's the easiest thing in the world to get in his head.  If he misses a few shots early and Marquette can capitalize, he'll start forcing things and maybe make a few dumb fouls.

I see MU winning both games against the Pirates this year.

I felt that way for Creighton. I know they are highly ranked this year, but I think last year's team with an electric offense, an absolute lock-down defender in Alexander, and that seemed to be peaking at the right time was primed for the kind of run they may struggle to replicate.

Tray Jackson is eligible for tonight's game. Trasnfer from Mizzou. Sounds like he will play.

What the heck kind of basketball player goes by "Tray" instead of by "Trey"?

I say we leave him open behind the arc all night long!

(Or at least until he hits one.)

In limited minutes last year he shot like 23% from 3 so not a terrible idea.

I don't have a feeling yet for how this young (new?) team will  perform on any given night. It makes me yearn for the Buzz days when betting MU worked way more than it didn't. Going to be optimistic, plus the over.

This will be key. Throw the trio of Dawson/Theo/Lewis at him and stay out of foul trouble. While conversely hoping he gets himself in foul trouble. Let the others beat us

Not sure we want Justin on him much either

100% agree, although I can't help but think Creighton was spared a bit of heartbreak. Marcus Zegarowski (pre-season BE POY this year) got injured in the last reg season game of the year and would not have played in the BE tourny or NCAA's.  As a part-time Creighton fan, part of me is a little relieved that they went out on a high note, clinching a share of the BE.  It was all about to come crashing down.  Dayton on the other hand, REALLY got screwed.

^^^^ Also for what it's worth, the scuttle-butt in Omaha is that Zegarowski is still not 100% recovered from that injury. I'm glad we played them early and got a signature win in the books!

Marquette 73-69, played at 69 possessions. MU projected to win 64% of the time.

Yeah, I just saw that. It got to 145.5, and has plummeted. I don't know if there's someone out or what, but I'm on the over here.
