Title: Oh Acker
Post by: DonCornholeone on February 04, 2008, 09:56:18 PM
He sure loves to sink those garbage time 3s, huh?  How about you stroke a few when we need 'em.

Tyshawn better be a God because Mo is not a 30-minute Big East guard. Too small and can't shoot.

He sure as hell isn't going anywhere but MU next season.

Acker isn't as quick and fast as he was billed to be coming into this year. I thought that was supposedly his one big advantage. It really isn't though. Many bigger guards are easily able to stay right with him, and beat him off the dribble.

He seems to be more slippery than quick.  And he is too short and overmatched strength-wise by pretty much every other starting PG in the BEast.  He needs to be really open to hit his obviously-good 3 stroke, due to his stature.  Like my friend Bry said, he isnt a STARTING BEast PG, but he is an incredible backup BEast PG.

I thought height was our issue - If you are going to Hate, try to pick a lane.

we outrebounded those putzes

That is a HUGE positive, we did outrebound them.  But, alas, we shot 32% from the field, 30% from 3 and 65% from the line, thus negating any rebound advantage we may have had.

Why is Acker playing ahead of Cubillian?

Coobs skill is more 2G, he gets alot of minutes.  Acker is a better true PG.

Acker handles the ball well on offense, has a very good outside shot; him driving to the hoop virtually only works when uncontested - he gets his shots blocked a lot.

But he brings a lot of energy ontpo the floor - but I think he is not a starting guard - he is a very good sub for sure.

cubillan has been in a serious slump recently, can't hit anything since....
IMO acker should lead this team in assists. he hits the occasional useless three, but he needs to be dribbling and dishing

I think Acker is tentative. He's actually playing for team for the first season. I think next year, he'll show more leadership and shoot the ball much more confidently.

Acker- 5'8 and 160, Cub 6ft, James 5'11.  They are quick, but short in height and defense has been poor.  Shooting?  stats speak for themselves.            Maybe T.Taylor at 6 ft 3 will help next year, but TC will have him on bench, watching, learning, more watching.

What has amazed me is that our quickness is not much of an advantage in the Big East. Except for Notre Dame all the teams in the Big East have a lot of quickness.

Louisville is quicker (and much bigger). So are Gtown, Syracuse, UConn, Pitt and West Virginia. ND isn't as quick but is much bigger and has much better perimeter shooters. Cincy is as quick but just couldn't make an uncontested outside shot when they played us. We're certainly not measurably quicker than Seton Hall, DePaul or a healthy Providence. So where does that leave us?

The only guy on our team who can truly be described as "quick" is James. Everybody else is no more quick than our opponents.

I like Acker, but he's so short that he needs a healthy amount of space to get a jump shot off.
