As a distinguished UB member said in a text today, let's finish this decade with a championship!
Eff cancer!
I'm going with DJO foe SOTG, Travis is my underdog.
GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!
Break out the Sonoran Salsa, Dunks.
Good d by D Wilson
This is the old school hard nosed MUBB that I miss
They better use that E & J brandy to make some Old Fashioneds after the game.
Gonna need to stop fouling every possession

DJO and Jamil with 2 each. A little too much iso on offense right now.
Luke is pretty damn bad.
What a terrible foul
This is just brutal basketball right now.
Gotta start moving the ball.....and make free throws.
STOP FOULING.
So are we still mad at Creek?
hahaha I've heard at least 3 f bombs so far
3 on DJO.
Gonna set a TBT record for most fouls
Really need to step pressuring the ball from midcourt
These fouls are unfathomable. I've not seen much. So light. Seriously djo with 3 and jamil with 2 with wat 5 min of play each? Its absolutely brutal. Wow
Free throws matta
One thing I've liked about TBT is the refs letting the players play. That's gone tonight
not letting them -play calling like college game one of them is Jeffry Anderson..ugh
Cook is dominating in the paint. Needs to stop chucking 3s.
Drink every time Chapman says "good".
These refs jfc. It really does feel like an MU game
Good sequence. Derrick been huge on D.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnd lead is gone. Immediately give up a 9-2 run with defensively break downs on some McGlynn scrub

Not if you are repping the great state of Wisconsin.
Just can't pull away or stay up. Love Keene getting locked up tho, until that fluke 2 on 1 trey
Derrick is gonna need to play the entire game.
Jamil having a rough game. Not able to get in any rythm
Free throws matta
SAD
Jamil sleep walking that first half
I'm hoping our D and depth wear out S.C.
Momentum killa
Jamil Wilson is by far the dumbest player ever to wear the MU uniform.
Wtf I haven't played organized ball since 7th grade and I still know don't keep your back to the inbounder in that situation.
The amount of complaining, feels just like a regular season game thread
Glad to make you feel at home ! ! ! 8-)
If Jamil can get it going in the second half then I have confidence. Tough first half but I have faith

You're more than welcome to watch the thrilling and super cerebral team in Madison.
He's one of the top 5 TBT players in this tourney's history and a critical reason they are even here. Stop whining cause he had a defensive lapse
Of all the players to say that about, Jamil?
Rough half with foul trouble. I expect a strong 3rd quarter.
It aint a game thread without excessive complaining, and unnecessary ripping of players. Relax, we haven't played great and it's a 1 point game. Certainly winnable.

True, although it's a little odd not complaining about coaching.
They've always come out firing in the 3Q. I expect no different today.

I've been looking for a live line I like on this game and I think MU 3rd quarter -2 is the way to go.
Buycks with his 4th foul. Not great
Now fifth. Still not great
Everytime we get a little cushion we give it right back.
Haven't score in like 5 possesions since we took a 5 pt lead.
5 on Buycks???
Omg Dwight
Score?
Getting absolutely mugged and not getting any calls.
Dwight, what are you doing?
Jamil seems to be getting hammered with no calls.
To be fair I don't even remember Buycks' fourth foul.

I don't think he got informed he got his 4th.
Also this officiating is wildly inconsistent. Especially inside. Not saying it's biased, just bad and selective
Score and time?
The tough part about having everyone on the perimteter is that you don't take advantage of penetration because there's nowhere to go. DJO has been beating his man off the dribble at will, but when help rushes over, he either has to go through it to the basket or try to kick all the way back out across his body.
Does Fran talk about anything other than
1. MU having 18 TBT wins but no money to show for it
2. Mo Creek getting hurt at Indiana
Literally its 1 of the 2 every 3 minutes with this guy

Killer attitude. I agree bad choice but that's what guys like him can do.
Gahhhhhhhhhhhh if that Charlo 3 fell woulda been huge. Leads to number 4 on DJO
MU 70-66 4:40 4th
Buycks biffs layup. Leads to a 3 for them.
Cannot put it away.
Tied at Elam. First to 8 wins.
70-70 4 min Elam ending 78 ! !! Lets go WARRIORS ! ! !
Charlo's miss was brutal and huge
Love that play!
Putting them in the bonus just to get DIener out
Wish Wilson wasn't so dumb ::)
1 stop. Then find the open guy and bring this home
I am so happy right now
Fucking Diener!!
That was awesome.
Win?

Lots of beer drinking tonight!
Franscilla said if no college basketball in November, they are considering another TBT.
Great Idea!

Wooooooot 🥳🥳🥳
Stud of the Game, no question, goes to Derrick Wilson. Didn't score a point, but held Marcus Keene to 3 (Jamil gave up the second three). Awesome game for D-Will.

Great win. Great tournament. It's hard to win a championship in anything. High school, college, pros, TBT - doesn't matter. It takes everyone moving forward all season (or tournament) long.

This is about as silly as BLM/Wades suggesting DJO shouldn't get a cut of the prize since he didn't play for MU last year.
Derrick played his role well in his 15-20 minutes on the floor. Credit due to Joe Chapman for devising the game plan to take the ball out of Keene's hands through the doubles/switches.

Your observation was correct. The core guys that carried us to this championship were Buzz/Crean guys.
Buzz's track record at MU with JUCO's - Buycks, DJO, Jimmy, Jae. Incredible. And the Duke-lite program of the last 4 years stands in stark contrast, as do the results.

No surprise. There are more Buzz/Crean guys to choose from, and they are older and have had more time to develop their games. Rowsey could well develop into a great TBT player, and so could fisher. The team would have benefited from Juan Anderson. In a few years, players like Markus and Sacar might well be interested.

I doubt he is interested. He is enjoying teaching and coaching kids, running AAU teams. He can make his own schedule, does not have to be on the road, does not have to recruit, and does not have to put up with sometimes tempermental college players. And way less pressure. I am sure he cares if his AAU teams improve and how his students do in games, but the whole world is not watching and nobody blames him if they lose.

I disagree, Joe is no different than anybody else. Likes to make money, and a 5 year contract goes along way in college coaching. Right now he is fighting the Covid
issue, so it is a hustle everyday. Lost all his camps, right now he has teams playing, but all day long he is working on small group lessons which are good, but not like
having 300 kids at $300 dollars for a week, do that twice a summer and the money adds up. so I am sure winning the TBT gives his family some relieve. He is a class
act in my book. He want out of his way to introduce himself to me at a practice where I was sitting by myself in a corner of the gym, tried to shake my hand, but obviously I did not due to Covid. We had a nice chat for a few minutes, and since that time he has always gone out of his way to say high to me. I think he could move on to the next level if he wants to.
If you look at the younger guys from 2015 onwards there are not a lot of great candidates for TBT...
JJJ - as far as I can tell out of pro basketball
Katin - maybe... playing in Belgium
Henry - would be a good addition. (that'll start a nice dialogue!)
Duane - also would make a nice addition
Matt - law school
Sacar - perfect
Markus - we saw today what professional defense does to 5'11 guys but he could still make an impact against some teams
Froling - might be worth the trip, he's developed well in Oz
Chartouny - maybe for his defense
Bailey - can replace Mo Charlo who's getting old
Jayce - YES!!!
Ultimately the need to replace Buycks and DJO leaves a big gap. Only Sacar really fits that role.
Nice to see Rowsey and Luke on the team this time... next year pick up 2 more of the above guys and keep the tradition going!

In what way would Sacar replace DJO or Buycks? Those guys were NBA players and are 10x the player Sacar is. Sacars story is a great story of perseverance and growth, but hes not very good at all relative to those two. Please remember What Buycks and DJO accomplished as players n team accomplishments at MU versus Sacar disappearing the last two years in Feb n March and being on sub .500 BE teams. Sacar is 8th man on the buycks/djo teams

Sacar was a much better player in college than Buycks. I am delighted at Dwight's success, but he was never a go to guy at Marquette. I would not have predicted he would make the NBA. Nor would I have predicted Juan Anderson, who might be interested some time in the future. Perhaps Reinhardt or Carlino. We will see what happens in the future, but there is a good core there and Fitzgerald has proven pretty good in recruiting the right players.
Enjoyed the four games the Golden Eagles played in TBT more than the regular college season. The format is exciting and I love watching this mix of players. Hopefully the same crew shows up next year.

He's listed as 5'9, but I think he may be closer to 5'8 too.
Also, as further evidence, Keene's senior year at Central Michigan, their schedule was HORRIFIC. Their only "decent" non-con game was a mediocre Illinois team that held him under his average and mediocre EFG of 45%. The rest was done against giants like Tennessee Tech, Montana St, Chicago St, and a very weak MAC that was handily won by an Akron team that then lost in the MAC tourney.
He was a fun highlight that season, and he certainly is a gunner that got hot during TBT, but there was a reason he didnt even win MAC POY and is playing in lower Asian BB leagues while Markus was a top 5 Naismith candidate and should have an NBA look.

The real wildcard is Wade. I thought that losing to Joe Johnson in the final might convince Wade to show up, since it would be a) revenge and b)"cool" for retired NBA guys like Big3 is. But when Johnson's team lost AND we won a title finally...I don't think he's coming.
I would also love to see Theo John in this format someday.

IMO, setting aside Wade who I really don't think *should* play in a tournament like this--unless we really want this to turn into a platform for retired NBA players-- there are two obvious upgrades that could make the team better.
Substitute Ellenson for Fischer
Substitute Vander for Rowsey
That's adding two more players that were at least good enough to get some time in the NBA. Ellenson in far more dynamic than Luke, is a exceptional rebounder, and would be a huge upgrade in the 5 out offense. Vander is far better than Rowsey at everything other than 3pt shooting, but the team already has plenty of threats from deep.
Seems highly unlikely for a number of reasons of course. First, Henry and Vander are still trying to grind their way back to the NBA and I doubt they see the TBT as helpful towards fulfilling that dream. Also, neither seemed particularly enamored of their time at MU, so it doesn't seem like they'd have much motivation to play on an alumni team. And tied to that point, the rest of the guys seem bonded by their love of MU, so I don't think the chemistry would be there.
From a talent perspective, adding two more guys with NBA experience and skill sets would take the team up another level, I just doubt it ever happens.
I think Sacar is a perfect guy for TBT. There's a lot of value for a guy that's able to defend multiple positions. He's also strong and can get to the basket. He's not Buycks or DJO, but certainly could be an asset.
