Title: MU Disrespect
Post by: HomeCourtAdvantage on February 03, 2008, 12:01:32 AM
If anyone was watching the ND - DePaul game this evening, you may have caught this.

ESPN put up a stat shot of the Big East Standings - from first place to about 12th place.

They left  Marquette out of the standings - despite the 6 - 3 BE Record.  It disturbed me.

Did anyone else catch this gaffe?

I caught it as well. More often than not, something is wrong with those graphics they put up. (using the texas logo for UCONN? Omitting teams, etc) They really should pay more attention to those.

If ESPN actually checked what they were saying and doing, a good portion of their on-air talent might be out of a job.

Here's another 'disrespecting' item:

Anyone notice during the telecast of the games there is a Big East Basketball promotional commercial??  It may only be on when the game is shown locally but they show various teams, clips and players in their respective uniforms....

Marquette appearances---0.

What gives?? And 'yes' they do show non traditional Big East teams (the newbies) in the commercial.

State that maybe so , but maybe they pay such close attention to that that they made up for it with a almost full picture shot of LAzar during their Rivalry week previews that are showing now.   Sarcasm off.

One thing I did notice yearterday and i do not feel it is disrespect , but simply slooppy craftsmenship was during one point of the game they showed the "leaders" box where they show the pts, rebs, and assists leaders for each team and Barrow was leading us in Pts and Rebs.  "Barrow"?

How many programs/clips are of non-football playing schools?  If I remember the commerical there were none.  I think they need ads they can run during both seasons.  Which is why we should start football!

I don't think its disrespect -- that requires intentionally omitting us -- I think it is just an error, that is all.  The people at ESPN don't care enough about MU to do something like that.

Seriously, I think everyone is looking into this a bit more then necessary.  I'm sure this happens to other schools.

The Big East promo they run also leaves MU out. Maybe it is becasue the Golden Eagle does not fit into it. Talks about being afraid of Wildcats, Blue Deamons, etc. I feel slighted every time they show it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW some people need to learn how to let things go.  The whole nickname thing is getting a bit ridiculous...
