Dunno if there's more than 1 or 2 of us on this board..
Anyway, governor stated no return to school for K-12 this semester.
And, at this time, keep making rent/mortgage payments. But no evictions permitted
Lastly, I am VERY close to the situation at St Vincent in downtown Indianapolis. To say it's not good would be a severe understatement
I believe the governor said no school until May 1. Talked to my brother who lives there, and he believes that it probably will be longer.
What is happening at St Vincent?

I heard from my kin in Indy that the ICU is full at St. V's. Don't have a clue how large of an ICU it has.

I'm not always the biggest fan of the company, but in times like these, it's nice to have them in our city:

Yep. I apparently know the *only* people who have been tested so far in Hamilton County.
McKinney has gone all online for the rest of the semester, including finals. Commencement is most likely cancelled. My clerk position has been suspended indefinitely. It's a lot to process.

Strange that Roche in particular hasn't helped speed up testing in Indiana. Here in MN, they provided high-throughput diagnostic processors that have helped Mayo increase its testing capacity from 1000/day to 4000/day.

Hopefully, they are also working with healthcare labs and providers in other locations.

Turning older patients away at the door. Pick your cutoff. In some parts of Italy, it was 80. In others, it was as low as 65. A problem with no good solution, and all due to lack of planning and a quick response.

Yeah i know. Very sad. Very demoralizing. Pathetic how unprepared we were for this thing. Crazy. What would happen in a potential worse scenario. Just effed up beyond comprehension

Do you mean in general? There are articles that were shown this weekend of ill preparedness for pandemics in 1997, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2018. Life and budgets are about balancing risk. Yes, we could build hospitals for 350 million beds to cover the worst case scenario. Would it be practical and money well spent? We could have 350 million ventilators built with 99% of them idle through decades of time.
What do you mean about being ill prepared base on what WHO was saying as recently as Mid January?

No we shouldn't have 350 million venilators and beds waiting 24 7. Pandemics do occur once every 20 ish years. We need to be more prepared to handle this stuff to mitigate damage. This is a disaster. Is this the best we could. Negligent as hell. Bad preparing. Delayed response. Disaster looming in the upcoming weeks. I mean wtf u talkin about

Well, I can't say with 100% accuracy, but WarriorDad uses the same argumentative tone, similar logical fallacies, and shows up when Cheeks gets banned. Once in a while, Cheeks logs as both and pretends to be one or the other. WarriorDad's persona attempts to present himself as a more balanced version of Cheeks, but its him.

You and I got into it a few years ago because you inaccurately said MU would not even go to the NIT. You were called out on it by several of us. You went on to attack personally those that do not agree with you. You were wrong then and wrong today, but you cannot seem to let go of a grudge.
I took a break from here because of the negativity and it has not bettered itself.

From Governor Holcomb, essential services inlcude religious entities (hopefully most churches/synagogues/etc go via video) and legal services (so courts are open?, my brother told me small claims hearing dates could have upwards of 100 people there).

Big hit today:
Indy 500 postponed until August 23.
Grand Prix of Indy postponed until July 4. This will coincide with a NASCAR race same day. Also, Florida-Georgia Line festival is at the track too. That could be a really fun day.
Indiana schools closed for the remained of the school year.
Marion county golf courses closed. Wtf
Indiana will begin to allow elective surgeries starting Monday as it looks like hospitals have available beds/PPE.
Regardless of what Gov Holcomb decides, Indy mayor decided to extend Marion county stay at home order to may 15.
That could create some serious conflict with commuters, businesses, etc.
We'll have to see what Holcomb announces tomorrow

Indiana was set for full open on July 4.
However, governor announced today that we'd be delaying by 2 weeks. No further opening at this time. Re-evaluate 2 weeks after July 4 celebrations due to increases within the state.
Seems smart. Some people are PISSED
Marion county requiring masks starting July 9 when indoors and when outdoors if not socially distancing
State-wide mask mandate starting Monday

Our governor made a few statements yesterday. He understands people's fears about voting in person due to the virus. However, he is against mail-in voting as a replacement.
Instead, he supports early voting to avoid having to vote with the large crowds...which is done, in part, through the mail.
Indianapolis' largest hospital re-opened the Covid unit over the weekend. It's already full.

Indiana is a wreck
Schools shut down. Hospital elective surgeries halted (but outpatient surgery centers can stay open...what?). Bars/restaurants still open.
Facepalm
Why oh why didn't my parents buy a massive lake house or mountainside retreat years ago so I could escape Indiana and winter there until everything cools down? Major blunder on their part, imo

I think that's a function of available hospital beds. They don't want elective surgeries taking up resources and beds in hospitals, whereas outpatient centers aren't handling COVID cases.

Not all schools are shut down. Avon schools are still open.
So, our governor announced the suspension of elective surgeries the other day. This was a surprise/shock to every hospital, hospital group and our state hospital association as no one from the government had spoken to any of them.
It has now come out that the governor did consult on this decision with the better business bureau, the chamber of commerce and the state-based insurance companies.
Perfect.
Because God forbid we don't let people go to bars.....
Indiana statewide mask mandate ends 4/6. Local areas allowed to set their own guidelines. Same for private business.
Indiana has lowered the age categories incredibly quickly for access to the vaccine. The last category (anyone >16) will begin 3/31.
Personally, I believe this is due to indiana's reliance on sporting events (Indy 500) and conventions. If the state/locals can push quickly, there's a lot of money to be made this summer.
Yes probably right, because they are pretty much behind the other states in the area in terms of their vaccine rollout per the CDC and the NYT.
Indy seeing a significant increase in positive cases 2 weeks after starting the NCAA tourney.
Not good.
Many positive cases coming from restaurant staff

"The most effective way to reduce infection and prevent serious illness is to get a COVID-19 vaccine and booster when eligible. We encourage anyone 5 and older to get vaccinated as soon as possible," a representative for IU Health hospitals said Friday."
I think we know from both mentally declining "healthcare professionals" and Fox News hosts that the above simply isn't true. Vaccines are bad and the best way to protect yourself from COVID is to catch COVID.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-host-greg-gutfeld-advises-viewers-against-boosters-as-covid-rages
"If you urge a booster for Omicron, does that mean you are actually going to end up preventing a more effective kind of vaccination, 'nature's vaccination,' which would raise the natural immunity," Gutfeld said, adding that this would be "in a safe way" despite the clear increased risk for people who contract the virus without a booster.
Suggesting without evidence that the boosters "may not be that effective," Gutfeld asked, "Why would you get a booster against what is, effectively, could be a booster," referring to Omicron itself. "Call me a quack, I don't care," he added with a shrug before turning the entire thing into an attack on President Joe Biden."
