Starting a thread for the Big East Tournament Women's Final. Coming up at 7P Central on FS1. Marquette and DePaul meet up for the 4th straight year in the tournament final.
Go Marquette!!!
Good job ! ! ! THANKS ! ! ! 8-)
Now if only I didn't have to see any hilites from last year's championship game - that one still stings big time :(.
Kieger just tweeted out well wishes for MU:

Usual starting 5 for MU:
Anderson, King, Spingola, Lott and VanKleunen
I really wish they could cut down on the turnovers. 3 Turnovers already in the first 6.5 minutes. LVK already has 8 points and MU holds a slim 12-9 lead with 3:24 to go in the first quarter.

10 turnovers in the first 13 minutes, many unforced. Otherwise playing well.

Marquette is shooting a better % from the field but DePaul has five 3's to 2 for MU and the big stat is DePaul has 18 points off 11 MU turnovers. MU was able to hang onto beat DePaul despite 24 turnovers in Milwaukee last week but that's not going to happen again. This one is getting away from MU in a hurry.
Turnovers are brutal. If DePaul starts hitting threes, watch out.
Not defending well enough, and the pace os better for DePaul who is knocking down shots.

Yeah I'd say they are hitting their 3's - 8 of 14 in the first half.
I'm really not sure how DePaul didn't get called for a foul on Lott at the end of the half there - they were all over her. But her throw up a prayer 3 went in so I guess that was better for MU anyway.
DePaul has 21 points off 13 MU turnovers - that's the stat of the game so far to me and a big reason they trail by 12 at the half.
Refs are letting a ton of contact go without a call. The girls will have to up their level of physical play and force the refs to call it one way or the other. DePaul is reaching in constantly. A few elbows to the chest might help.

That's been DePaul's style for years - they're very physical and of course it's not a foul if the refs aren't calling it :). I just thought that play on Lott at the end of the half was really bad and she looked pretty ticked walking off the court there - glad she didn't get a T there though - saw a Seton Hall player have that happen yesterday after she didn't get a call and said something to the ref.
Yeah, there's a lot of contact on MU inside and no whistles especially in the first half. DePaul has a terrific press but MU should be better at it than showing tonight. Also not making them pay when the press is broken with easy baskets.

They've had trouble with the press all season. I've never felt so frustrated after watching a 20+ point win as I was in the game against Butler a few weeks ago. They overcame 22 turnovers to win easily but they had such trouble getting the ball in and over halfcourt that it was often painful to watch. I definitely think this will be something they'll concentrate on before next season (not that they haven't worked on it this season already though).
They are sure getting away with a lot..... Doug Bruno works the reffs better than Bo Ryan ! ! ! >:(
Geez DePaul is hitting all their threes.

Yep - they're a pretty good outside shooting team so watch out. Tonight they are 13 of 22 from the outside so far. In the game in Milwaukee last week, they were 11 of 30 overall from 3 point land but that doesn't tell the whole story - they were 7 of 11 from outside in the 4th quarter after being 4 of 19 from outside the first three quarters. Marquette withstood the comeback from DePaul in the 4th quarter in that game.
LVK is two away from tying her career high of 23 which she set in her first ever collegiate game.
And refs fall for the flop. SMH
I hope LVK is ok - she took a hard tumble there. They'll need her for the NCAA Tournament.

It's embarrassing. Don't know how veteran refs can be so fn dumb.
DePaul 88 Marquette 74 final. LVK makes the all-tournament team. Hoping her ankle is ok.
Now they wait a week for the NCAA Selection Show at 6P Central on Mon 3/16.

MU made a business decision. No non rev coach is going to get rich at MU.
It's ok. Everyone ended up in a good spot.
