I've been spending most of my writing time of late on a Markus Howard project, but took a short hiatus to break down what we might see on tomorrow's Top-16 Reveal from the NCAA. While I don't expect Marquette to be included, they are closer than you might think. If they can hold serve on NMD, don't be surprised to see them moving into that top-16 on some brackets.

Dont see two mud majors getting the one seed. More likely on selection sunday that they are the 1-2 seeds out west. With the committe hoping at least one of them takes an L or two before the end of the season

Even though Gonzaga is technically in a mid major conference I think they have proved they are anything but a mid major. Yes their conference isn't that strong but a championship appearance and giving the eventual National Champs a run for their money makes them legit.
Now San Diego State on the other hand? Their conference is poor this year and their non-con wasn't exactly amazing. Like you said, if they even have one loss by Selection Sunday they should be a 2.
Edit: Adding two things....
1. Understand that per the committee's metrics San Diego State "deserves" a 1 right now. I just don't personally think they are THAT good
2. I am totally biased. In all my travels to non-con tournaments to see Marquette, Aztecs fans were the least likable by a wide margin.

I see no reason to sling mud at mid-majors.
