Sad news out of CA. Gone too soon.
Sorry— did not see thread on superbar
Very sad .... one of the greats.
Just unbelievable seeing this. Chilling news
Doesn't seem real.
Apparently always commuted in LA via helicopter. More efficient than driving. Took one too many helicopter trips.
Rumors swirling his four daughters were aboard. My god.
Tragic.
Chopper crashed a few minutes from my house. So sad. One of the GOAT.

Thankfully false. Tragically being reported as one daughter was aboard. Hope TMZ has it wrong

Horrible situation. Have to feel so bad for his wife Vanessa. Losing a husband and a daughter. Devastating, just devestating.

Does "developing" cover naming people/children not on board as being dead?
Just brutal
Awful reporting by the majors on this. TMZ comes out the leader on this.

Orange Coast College baseball coach died on flight....John Altobelli.
Copter took off from not to far from where we live and was likely going to Camarillo airport. From there about a 20 minute drive to Thousand Oaks / Newbury Park area. My brother in law has pilot's license and lives in Camarillo where he does most of his flying.

I am loathe to give someone from that network the benefit of the doubt, but what purpose would it serve for her to say it? I think she stumbled and mangled some words. Fast moving story, media stepping all over themselves to be the first to report and the butchering they do all the time already without that time pressure....not surprising. I heard the recording, I don't know...almost sounds like Knickers to me but I don't know. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt for now unless something else comes out.

Man. I don't know. I only listened a couple of times, but sounded to me like she got tongue tied and said "knickers,". Just can't fathom a media person, especially at MSNBC, being racist. Will be interesting to see what happens with her.

She tweeted that she combined Knicks and Lakers into Nakers, and apologized for the mistake.

Why "especially at MSNBC" comment....people there as biased and issues like anyone else....Joy Reid has made many anti LGBTQ comments in her career. Regardless, I also hear Knickers...a human being made a mistake...it happens.

Happened to me once. A close friend died (also lead singer of a moderately successful band in Jersey) and before his wife was able to reach out to friends a music blog posted on Facebook about his death. The thing with that situation was I didn't know if it was real until I was able to talk to his wife, who was now being inundated with calls. Vultures.

Agree, the only way is if it was a freudian slip and it did sound like knickers.

She was previously in NYC so Knickerbockers might have been on her mind.
I suspect a lot of MU players were big fans of Kobe as he was an elite player in their youthful Basketball development lives. RIP

It obviously wasn't intentional. That doesn't lessen the impact of the mistake.
Since reading, I've listened closer a couple more times. In all honesty, I'm not hearing a ck sound but maybe that's what happened.

I think it does lessen the impact. It was a mistake, she wasnt intentionally or even subconsciously saying a racial slur. She mixed up two team names. Her screw up should not be a big political or social event. Sorry but, people need to stop being so easily offended when its its obviously not warranted. It detracts from the real tragedy of the day
John Altobelli's wife and daughter were also on the helicopter. Bryant did a lot down here in Orange County and specifically with Orange Coast College. Altobelli played baseball at the University of Houston, won state championships as a coach here in 2009, 2014 and 2015. Recently named national junior college coach of the year.
A tragic day for too many young people. May they all be embraced by the Lord.

Don't know why but this one hit me really hard.
Rivers really emotional there. Difficult to watch with all the pain he and others are going through.
This actually hurts somewhat. 23 years on this rock and no celeb death has really bothered me much but for some reason this one hits hard. Doesnt seem real still. Just sad. RIP kobe.. and others

Because they are stunned and what can you really say? They have opened the practice facility and areas around Staples for the fans. Sometimes there are no words. The organization will have a celebration of his life. that is in the works.

I think it would be far classier to stop mentioning how close you are to the tragedy and the people paying respect to it. But it is sort of like name dropping, you can't help yourself.
smh
As you can imagine out here this has been the dominant story round the clock. 24/7. They have infrared sensors at the crash site to detect people trying to sneak onto the site.

I'm just giving an update on what is happening locally where this effects people the most. If a Chicago or MKE big star died I would not be surprised one but or find it odd if someone here said they went to the makeshift memorial, or whatever and reported it here.
