Went Dawson's game last night where he squared off against Wisconsin commit Steven Crowl (6'10")
Dawson finished with 14 points, and around 8 rebounds. Fouled out with 7 minutes left. He got called for 4 lame fouls, which made it difficult for him to get into a flow.
Takeaways:
-He's very confident handling the ball - assertive dribble drive capability.
-Great form on jumper
-Sees court pretty well, made a few nice passes to teammates.
-More fluid athlete and better shooter than Henry Ellenson
-Don't anticipate we will see him used on low block much at all - he's a stretch 4 or you could play him as a Point Forward.
-Not sure I see him being a major* impact player next year, but he's very skilled and should be a great player at MU.
Wisconsin commit Crowl:
Typical Wisconsin recruit - fundamentally sound, good shooting stroke, but probably a little better athlete than some of their other bigs over the years - has a decent amount of bounce/fairly quick off the floor. He played primarily with back to basket, doesn't have near the handle/ball handling ability of Dawson. Scored around 24 as I recall. Think he will do well at Wisconsin.

How is his flop and nut punch game?
Seriously, thanks for the update.

Funny you should ask. Crowl was involved in a little dustup that required separation of players.
Thanks for the report.

The fouls on Dawson at the 9:48 and 10:53 marks are indeed a very bad calls.

For sure. The other two fouls called on him not shown in video were also REALLY weak.
The opponent got real physical anytime Dawson tried to post up - put their 6'6" kid on him who is probably about 220lbs. Also sagged off the guards to limit space/low post touch opportunities.
Most impressive traits to me was Dawson's handle/fluidity/smooth shooting form.

Good thing he won't have to worry about bad calls next year.
At least Dawson will be prepared for the Theo John treatment.
Thanks for the first hand report
Garcia makes the McDonalds all American game. Congrats to him.
Can Garcia play back up center when needed?

Could he? Yes. Would it be best usage of his skills? No. Landing a big for Class of 2021 that could eat some minutes would be great.

The calls and no calls in the St. John's game made me question my eye sight. I saw several calls on both sides that I did not think were fouls and I saw several fouls on both sides that were not called.

They will land a big in 21......with Theo gone they have no choice. At least 1 freshmen and probably a transfer of some kind either this spring or next year.
Garcia can play some minutes at the 5......lots of teams are playing perimeter types now.....like Nova.

Re Nova, I could argue that Robinson-Earl is much more of a 5 than a 4?

No
Somebody is going to have to back up a foul prone Theo next year unless they sign a grad transfer.

I imagine Wojo and company will have to be on the lookout for another Jayce this spring.
