That award typically goes to a player whose team ends up on the top-4 seed lines at worst. Howard is, in my opinion, unquestionably the most deserving of this award. Considering the defensive attention he commands and the production he still delivers, no one can match that. But unless the team as a whole improves their standing, he won't truly be in the mix.

It's also why I think we get in the tournament even if we are on the bubble...he is must watch tv.

Would've thought that two years ago when we had Rowsey Howard and Sam shooting lights out.

He wasn't a Naismith finalist then or leading scorer in the country.

True it's not apples to apples but he did have a 50pt game and we had three players able to go for 30 whenever.

I don't know, it didn't help Ben Simmons, and he was a consensus first team All-American. Teams get in on merit, not individual star power.

Definitely not a guarantee...I'm saying if bubblish, it doesn't hurt.

LSU that year, if I remember, was in the 80's or 90's...too big a hill to climb.

Do You think Markus will be one of the four finalists?

I don't, but I think he'll be more deserving than any of them. Love to be wrong about the former.

MU keeps winning and beats SH on Senior day to tie for first place in conference and MH will be NPOY.  Calling it now.

IMO there is zero reason Myles Powell should win anything over Markus, even if Seton Hall finishes with a better record/ranking/seed.  It's one thing if MU were going to finish in bottom half of league and miss NCAA - but we will likely finish Top 4 in Big East, get a 5ish seed.  Its been a good year.

And in their podcast today (heavy on BE, MU and Markus), Norlander and Parish did not even mention Powell in POY discussion, and were heavy into Markus (now that MU is pushing into the top 25).

Had him at number 2 or 3 but seemed big on Garza.

Did Vernon Carey get hurt or something?  Katz didn't even have him on his list.

Two ways Markus gets consideration.

1. He goes off for 40 or 50 a few more times and Marquette gets their average wins and losses when he does. They make the tournament as a 7 seed.

2. Markus averages 20-25 pts shooting a high percentage, and becomes even more of a facilitator. This scenario requires other guys hitting their open shots. Marquette wins out or close to it and gets a 4 seed.

I don't even know what to say, given the collection of writers, but that list stinks out loud.  No issue with the top 2, but Powell #3 and ahead of who he is, thats ridiculous.  Malachi Flynn?  Come on man, thats just the lazy "give the MVP to the QB of the winning team" crap.  Really good player but 16-4-4 is the best player in the country?

Also, Katz with his typical homer garbage putting UW at #30 after they lost 3 of 4 cause they snuck by MSU at home after puking up an 18 point lead.  Hardly a resounding win to rocket them back up the board, Andy.
