Title: Anyone else scared?
Post by: That Guy on January 31, 2008, 10:37:36 AM
That we may be lined up to lose 5 in a row here...

@ Cincy - we have all seen how we play on the road. Cincy has shown this year that if they show up they can play some ball. They've recently beaten Pitt, Nova, Cuse and Louisville at home

Louisville - Demolished us last time, granted this game is at home but walking away with a W will be really tough

@ Notre Dame - Undefeated at home this year, in my opinion one of the toughest teams in the Big East, we spanked them at home which will not matter for this game one bit. This game scares me the most of the 5.

@ Seton Hall - MU always has a game a year they are "supposed to win" on the road and they flop, this is panning out to be that game. SH is tough this year and MU shouldn't look past them as an easy win as we blow on the road.

Pitt - Same as the Louisville game, this is at home but is a great Big East matchup.

What MU team will show up? The team from the past few years that got to this point and started to fade? If MU can walk away from this 3-2 I would be really pleased. Most likely losing to Louisville at home and ND on the road.

This is what will tell the test for the season, can we walk away 5-0?
Thoughts?

Every BE game is a challenge.  I worry about every game anyway.  In college ball, you never know what might be affecting individual players.  In the end, as coaches say, you have to focus on the current game.

Way to take a stand Nukem, really went out on a limb with that one.  That said I would be happy with 3-2 as well, but I think 4-1 is a realistic expectation if we can get out of this offense where the pg brings it up stands, dribbles, passes, gets it back, dribbles, 10 seconds left on shot clock time to go to work.  That is not the type of team MU is when they are at their best.

if we can get our swagger back, then i don't see any reason why we can't go 3-2 or 4-1.  i agree with strokin' 3's, we need our identity back.  the pushing the ball, the swarming defense.  we suck in the half court and everyone knows that.  and you can't use the, well we only play well against weak teams or at home.  look at Maui or UW, give me that team back and we go 4-1 during this stretch.

I am not the least bit scared of going 0-5, nor 1-4.  I am scared of going 2-3.  Realistically, I think we will go 3-2.  I like wins over DePaul, Seton Hall, and either Looeyville or "the" Pitts.

It's funny, for all of the talk around here,  I will assume Vegas will have us as a favorite in 4 of our next 5 games.  We are a decent team, we just need to get that first road win (Cincy) and we will be okay.

We're done with DePaul.

I could just as easily see them win all 5. They've looked terrible the last 5 so no reason they can't look great again in the next 5.

@Cincinnati will be a tough test but perhaps we catch them at a bit of an overconfident time. Home versus Louisville provides a great test on a national stage. @Notre Dame where they play great but MU is still a major matchup issue for them on the guards/wings. @Seton Hall is a good matchup as well. Ending with Pittsburgh at home on a Friday night should be more then a crazed house for that one.

We'll go 4-1.

cant be so sure about that 4-1, Im very skeptical considering the last few years it was this turning point in the season where they folded:

2007 - 21-4
Feb 10 @ Gtown - LOSS
Feb 14 @ Depaul - LOSS
Feb 17  Louisville - LOSS (buzzer beater game)
Feb 19 Nova - WIN
Feb 24 @ ND - LOSS
WE GO 1-4 to have a 22-8 record

2006 - 15-5
Jan 28 @ Pitt - LOSS
Feb 1 St Johns - WIN
Feb 4 @ NOVA - LOSS
Feb 12 @ Rutgers - LOSS
Feb 16 - GTown - WIN
WE GO 2-3 to have a 17-8 record

2005 - 15-5
Feb 2 UAB - LOSS (Diener DNP)
Feb 5 Southern Miss - WIN
Feb 9 @ TCU - LOSS
Feb 12 @ ECU - WIN
Feb 17 Louisville - LOSS (Garcia hits 3 pointer, diener miss at buzzer game)
WE GO 2-3 to have a 17-8 record

THIS IS THE TURNING POINT! Just saying 4-1 has not been the realistic finish here!!

Strokin 3's...the type of offense you don't want to see is what is going to happen the rest of the yr, unless MU learns how to shoot.  MU will not be able to push the tempo like it did against bad teams. The Big East knows that the zone stops MU and every team the rest of the yr is going to run it against them.  Get ready, its going to be a frustrating end of the year.

Keys to winning these games:  REBOUNDING and REBOUNDING.

Perhaps the dip this season comes in January and they actually finish out strong in February/March?

anything less than 3-2 and we will probably have to beat Georgetown to assure ourselves a bid. A 2-3 stretch leaves us at 7-6 and right on the bubble. We get smoked at Cincy on Saturday and I think we're in trouble.

We'll go 4-1.

I agree. I say we go 4-1 with the loss coming at either ND or Seton Hall. I think we beat Cincy and Louisville in the next two though.
