MU recruits lighting it up
Here's a quick update on MU's 2008 recruits:
Tyshawn Taylor led the nation's best high school team with 21 points and seven boards in an 81-50 win over Neptune last night (http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080130/SPORTS01/80130094/1002/SPORTS). With the win, St. Anthony improved to 15-0.
Down in Alabama, LeFlore High School remains the top ranked team in the state with a 26-2 record (http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/1201770928259830.xml&coll=2). Nick Williams had a huge night in the Rattlers' 87-61 win over McGill-Toolen (http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/BoxScores.mxp/AreaID-cf13fd1c-3b7d-4977-a7d7-47cce64a8ac8/ContestID-30aa5947-ef95-4148-8737-aa350790291e/Boys_Varsity_Basketball_Winter_07-08/Alabama) earlier this week. The 6'4" shooting guard led LeFlore with 28 points, five rebounds and six steals. Williams is averaging 20 ppg this season, and like Tyshawn Taylor was recently named a finalist for the McDonald's High School All-American game.
Tyler JC won last night despite losing MU commit Joseph Fulce for the last six minutes of the game due to fouls (http://www.tylerpaper.com/article/20080131/SPORTS06/801310309/-1/SPORTS). Tyler JC is now 17-1 on the season. Fulce was more impressive last week with a 20 point, 11 rebound performance in a win over Panola College (http://www.tylerpaper.com/article/20080124/SPORTS06/801240307). TC was in the house for that effort.
Over to Houston we go for some tidbits on 6'10" Chris Otule. It is difficult to track Fort Bend Bush on a game-by-game basis, but a quick rip through Jim Hicks' RCS Sports site (http://eteamz.active.com/HAAY/) indicates that the big fella is scoring in double figures consistently. Keep in mind that Otule only averaged 5ppg as a junior. One of FB Bush's biggest wins this season came over perennial power Sugarland Willowridge, 63-51. Otule led Bush with 15 points in that game, and had 16 points in a 46-44 win over Travis High School earlier this week.
Me gusta.

According to some "fans" on this board, Crean cannot recruit, and this incoming class offers nothing. I was surprised no one commented on your post until I realized it didn't fit their agenda.
How difficult is it to be named a finalist? Were the Three Amigos finalists?
Thanks for the info. by the way. It's great to hear about the recruits.
Did Crean even recruit Otule or Fulce?

Did Bobby Knight recruit every player at Indiana? Are you getting into semantics about assistant coaches now?
Besides, as much as we are paying the assistants don't you want them to earn their keep? ;)

I think he did recruit Otule but Fulce seems to be hitched completely to Williams.
In the end though anything to keep assistants here for a couple years, yeah?
I'm sure all the recruits are coming to Marquette DESPITE the self-promoting TC.
I don't care who recruited them...but what impresses me is they are coming from all over the country. The BE and ESPN has been a boon for MU. Kudos to TC and staff. O'Tule seems like the only project in the bunch and he is still coming off age. We will be loaded for at least the next 3-5 years--with no rebuilding years in between.
1500 players are named McDonalds AA "finalists"
wow thats a lot and how many are selected? like 24?
There is no way in hell 1500 are picked to be finalists if that were the case every signle recruit would be a finalist... there is just no way I would like to see where you got that info
Edit...
Heres what i was looking for
From the Philadelphia enquirer
"In all, around 150 players nationwide are on the list trimmed down from around 1,500 nominees. The list of the 100 finalists will be released early next month. The announcement of the official McDonald's All-American team will come at the end of February."
so there are 1500 nominess and the list of finalists is only 100 people
