Title: Free Throws
Post by: shoothoops on January 04, 2020, 07:15:16 PM
26 of 30 for MU.

The two best took the most. Howard 12/12. McEwen 10/13.

Getting to the line, getting your good FT shooters to the line.

87%

And just as importantly......3-5 from Nova.....they got few attempts....we got a bunch and made them.

On a day where we couldn't throw it in the ocean( Nova couldn't either) from 3 and got out shot from 2 that was huge.

A little bit to add for me was Theo.

Theo was an excellent rim protector of drives without fouling. Theo imo struggles with fouling more away from the basket, and, when a big tries to get position and catch in the post. Also this is what we'd all like to see, double digit rebounds from Theo cleaning the glass. He was very active and played with more confidence as the game went on.

Getting to the line, but getting your better FT shooters to the line, and, positioning yourself on d by fouling less. That is big with Villanova as they are frequently an excellent FT shooting team. Jay Wright recruits kids that can make FT's.

Team free throw percentage doesn't matter much.  But that isn't nearly as alliterative.  Getting to the line often matters.   Making free throws while trying to hold a lead late matters.    From a macro eFG% perspective, making 20-30 v 22-30 matters almost not at all.

Attempting 30 to Villanova's 5 matters a lot.
