Anybody here from late 70s early 80s remember the Intramural team 'Shoe?'
I recall them as being very good. If your team had center court at Halfaer rec center and they showed up you'd lose that spot.
Urban legend. No such team. In the mid 70s sixth floor McCormick had all the talent for flag football and rec basketball. Undefeated teams at the old stadium in football and at the rec.
In the late 80's, the Griswold's ruled the intramural court.
never heard of Shoe.
I remember the Pumas were probably the most talented team in the 1978-79 years. Their scores were usually in the 80-14 range.
A couple all-state players from Illinois and Indiana. Also a guy from Chicago named Donald Brown that had been a starter at D2 Univ of Denver.
But the main guy was a stud player from NYC, I think his name was Don(?) Williams. I ran with him quite a few times at the old Y. No question he could have been a decent bench player with the '78 and '79 MU squad. At least as talented as Larry Hatchett or Tony Davis. But he was pre-med and put studies first. I remember Hank approached him for the 1979 team.
I remember a guy that fit that description. He lived at West and Mashuda and was quite a funny and bright guy.
It wasn't until later that I found out he was a really good basketball player. Supposedly he played HS ball in Philly with Michael Brooks who went on to play at Lasalle.
It was all word of mouth information. Puma might have been what people meant when they said Shoe.
Williams may have been from Philly.
I remember him saying he played against Toone in high school. So I thought he was from NYC. Maybe they made it up to Yonkers.
Yes, I remember Shoe. Used to take on the Dregs for IM championship
Cheeks and I would say "Bob's Stores".
