Title: USC game
Post by: shoothoops on November 29, 2019, 08:57:05 AM
USC game.

MU will have to rebound competitively to win the game.

USC has had success w/front court scoring from 6'9 Freshman star Onyeka Okongwu (He's really good) and 6'11 Senior Nick Rakocevic. When Rakocevic has struggled (last few games after a strong start) it's been more challenging for USC to win. USC has receives strong backcourt play the last few games from Senior Jonah Mathews who is more of their backcourt scorer, and Sophomore Elijah Weaver.

Temple while undersizes vs USC out toughed them on the boards 42-38 in their win over the Trojans.

It will be important for MU to slow down Rakocevic or Okongwu. The way they have been playing, it will more likely be Rakocevic.

USC has played up tempo teams, slow teams etc...MU really needs to get more out of the 5 spot in various ways than they did last night.

Would be a nice win for MU.

Will be interesting to see how their bigs do against us. While they struggle on offense, we have three large defensive minded bigs. This will be the first time USC has seen quality players with size all season.

As usual, the Davidson game thread was filled with idiocy, including many rips -- by name -- of the kids who are trying to win basketball games for us. The bigs were especially targeted.

++ guru, who has claimed that he doesn't rip active Marquette players, said Theo was "where he always is..on the bench with two early fouls."

Theo had only 2 fouls total in each of our first two games, and was huge in the Purdue comeback, playing 34 minutes and getting only 2 fouls all night. He had 3 fouls total in 23 minutes against Robert Morris. He unfortunately had foul trouble against F%cky and Davidson ... but if experiencing that in 40% of our games = "always," then sure, guru was right.

++ Several Scoopers ripped Jayce.

First, I thought Jayce gave us some good minutes. He had 4 rebounds in 15 minutes and was a +10 -- third-highest on the team. He obviously is still getting his legs under him.

And second, will some never learn about rushing to judgment about grad transfers? At this time in their careers, Katin and Lockett also were being ripped by dopey Scoopers.

++ Morrow had a bad game, maybe his worst as a Warrior. But he has helped us win many games during his time at Marquette, and I remember him especially coming up large against F%cky last season. He will help us many times again this season.

Aside from those with standout 5s, many coaches around the country wish they had the the kind of three-big rotation Wojo has at his disposal.
