It's still bad mojo to start this thread before the game is over.  :-[

I liked what I saw from Gardiner.

Markus as runner-up.

Markus put this game away almost single-handedly early on, scoring 22 points in his first 10 minutes on the court. Stud.

Kudos to Theo and the rest of the team for an outstanding defensive performance. Bring on Purdue.

I don't see Markus not winning many of these this season.

What's the record?

Cowder  (2011-2012) tied with Howard (2018-2019) at 11 each

Well, there's another big record that Markus will break.

Might break it before conference play starts!

Honestly, if Howard didn't set the record tonight, most would probably vote for Theo's 7/8/8. Let's not forget it's Scoop.

True, true.

But then again, it's a dictatorship not a democracy. No matter who votes for whom, the mods pick the stud. And that's probably a very good thing.

Remember when 38 points in 25 minutes would have been a big deal?

Now it's just another game.

Just read the game thread.  Had you used that to follow the game, you'd have assumed Marquette lost based on some people or struggled to put away a buy game.  Simply astonishing.

The hate projected towards Markus by a few people here is embarrassing.

The turnovers were a problem.

But people are complaining about Markus leading the team to a 44-13 halftime lead because he scored too much.  Some Marquette fans deserve to root for DePaul.

Walking away from the game concerned about turnovers is a legit thing.  That's it.  Secondary scoring was fine.  Guys were making 3's outside Markus, that was a concern of mine entering the season and for one game, it was fine.  No offense to the rest of the guys, but Markus Howard is an offensive unicorn

Kansas had 28 turnovers against Duke last night and lost by two.  The fact is that the first game of a season always show sloppiness and unforced errors.  It's why so many programs schedule cupcakes to shake the dust off from just practicing against each other for months.  Something to keep in perspective for those attempting to jump off a cliff.

Markus is a once-a-generation-type talent.  Instead of criticizing and nitpicking every single mistake the team makes, why not just enjoy his skills and the ride of the season?  My goodness.

Proud of Markus and what he has accomplished as a Warrior. He embodies the best of who we are.

That said, we are not going to win many games this year if one player takes 40 percent of the shots and scores almost 50 percent of the points. I'd been a lot happier if we had balanced things out a whole lot more than we did.

For that, THEO

Markus.

After about 6-1/2 minutes of play, MU led 21-0, and Markus had 19 points.  It was Markus 19, Sacar 2, and Loyola 0.  The rest of the game could be played on auto-pilot.

In the lid-lifter for the prior five years, our turnovers have been well below our season average.
2018-19 – 11 to's, 16.4% to rate
prior 11, 16.2%
prior 12, 15.4%
prior 11, 14.9%
prior 7, 10.4%

When are we going to have a guy take 40% of the shots & almost 50% of the points?

It'd be a win in all likelihood

Markus was too good, therefore Theo?

Theo is probably my favorite player, but this makes no sense.

We'll win a ton of games if our best player has 133 offensive rating at 46% usage.
