Apologies in advance for sizing... but it allows you to properly zoom to each county.

Seems like a bit much for UWM also shouldn't us and them be switched? I mean they're the north siders

Looks like they have the metro area divided roughly 50/50, which is a huge stretch.
in realty every county besides Milwaukee would UW. maybe a few on the north west boarder would be UM idk. certaintly zero UWM lol.
Illinois would also dominate the entire state of Illinois except maybe Chicagoland.
NIU, Illinois St. and Bradley aren't even close. No matter how bad the Illini have been recently.
Edit: Didn't realize that was the imperialism map. Carry on.
Are we even playing for any territory against Loyola? I can't find them on the map.
Assuming Purdue beats UWGB in their first game, we will have a great opportunity to expand our northern borders in game 2.

The Major takeaway for me is that no one cares if Gonzaga wins the National Title.
I know that my Dad made it to heaven because Holy Cross made the map.
It looks like UIC and Chicago State made the map, but no DePaul or Loyola. I guess one year away from the final four and no one cares anymore.

Its based on proximity, and I didn't make it. I also share this beef with the map.
It's based on closest county to the arena, not the school. Since UWM plays 2 blocks south of MU, they get the counties to the south.
Don't worry about the pre season. Dominate at the end of the season. MU was one of the top teams in terms of population and geographic area domination until the year end swoon.

Its true, I'm going to try to keep this updated.

Thanks, Hards. I loved this thing last year...a lot of fun.
Take care of business against Purdue next week and we'll get a couple nice chunks of land.
Had a snicker about it.
In Kentucky, for example, UK owns the state except for Jefferson County and, maybe Warren County. Murray State's influence ends at the Murray City Limits.
In Tennessee, there is only ONE school, the University of Tennessee. Vanderbilt may control a small portion of SW Davidson County, but that's it. APSU, TSU and MTSU dominating in a region? No way. Only MTSU may have any local strength in the city limits of Murfreesboro. As to Memphis State -- yeah right. Again UT -- no chance.
In Wisconsin, UW controls the state. Every county except parts of Milwaukee County and the extreme western counties between Interstate 90 and Lake Superior, where the University of Minnesota predominates.
Finally, in Iowa, eastern Iowa is the University of Iowa. Western Iowa is Iowa State. Nobody else (except Nebraska in the Council Bluffs area) matters.
Whole lot of people don't seem to understand this is based on closest team (arena), not any sort of fandom.

Yeah, at it's heart, it's a geography map and nothing else. The original idea -- not sure if he explains it in this year's version -- was that what if every game was for territory (defined as the county nearest the arena). And if a team won, it amassed the opponent's territory. It has absolutely nothing to do with fandom.
Guys this is based strictly on location/geography. Not fan loyalty. It is a fun map but it doesn't really mean much relative to how good you are.
If it's only based on geography, shouldn't both Northwestern and Loyola be represented in Cook County?
Seems like they arbitrarily chose to omit a bunch of schools....

Depends upon your definition of arbitrary. My recollection -- reading it last year -- is that he chose the school that is closest to the center of every county in the United States. I think maybe based upon the arena where the team plays. Some schools simply aren't closest to any county, so they don't have any land. So yes, the rule for his map is arbitrary. But once he created the arbitrary rules, he followed them based on the geography.
Edited to add: here's a couple comments on Reddit from the guy who created this: "Each county is given to the school closest to the geographic center of the county, which leads to some wild things in certain places of the country" and "So in counties with more than one D1 school it's the school closest to the center of the county." It's just something he does for fun, and it presumably required quite a bit of initial research (how many counties are there in the United States?) and upkeep. I think it's a lot of fun.

And here's a list from the creator of the schools that are omitted: "The teams with no land: Belmont, Boston University, California, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Columbia, DePaul, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, Fairfield, Harvard, La Salle, Long Beach State, Loyola Chicago, Loyola MD, Loyola Marymount, Manhattan, Maryland, Miami FL, Princeton, Rice, Saint Joseph's, San Diego, Santa Clara, St. Francis NY, UCLA, UNC Greensboro"
DePaul beats down Alcorn State so they got a toehold in western Mississippi to set up basecamp.

This made me curious about how the schools who started without land were doing. Results:
- Belmont - nothing
- Boston University - nothing
- California - picked up Pepperdine's territory
- Cal State Fullerton - nothing
- Cal State Northridge - nothing
- Columbia - nothing
- DePaul - as you stated, picked up Alcorn State's territory in Mississippi and Louisiana
- Drexel - nothing
- Eastern Michigan - nothing
- Fairfield - nothing
- Harvard - nothing
- La Salle - nothing
- Long Beach State - nothing
- Loyola Chicago - picked up a nice chunk of land in Northern California with victory over UC Davis
- Loyola MD - of course they have nothing
- Loyola Marymount - nothing
- Manhattan - nothing
- Maryland - picked up a bit of land with a win over Holy Cross
- Miami FL - nothing
- Princeton - nothing
- Rice - nothing
- Saint Joseph's - grabbed some real estate in Illinois with a win over Bradley
- San Diego - nothing
- Santa Clara - nothing
- St. Francis NY - nothing
- UCLA - in a case of bad scheduling, UCLA gained nothing by defeating Long Beach State
- UNC Greensboro - won a little bit of land in their own state by beating NC A&T

I'm assuming that this guy is from the East since he displays no knowledge of Chicago area arenas.
I'd like to see this by population density

Just for clarity, this is different than the supremacy map. We got minimal, if any, benefit from beating Loyola Maryland.
For further clarification, there are currently 2 versions of this map making the rounds. This one is the territory given out based on distance from undefeated schools, although it does not have the UK loss updated yet. This version of the map will most likely be completely blank by mid January as once you lose you obviously can't get territory back. The Supremacy map is the more popular one because it remains relevant throughout the entire season until the entire country is "owned" by one team in April.
