What a clown
Finally. Feistiness about being underrated. And coming from a guy who wants Wojo fired. Huzzah! The whole board is sitting around the Delta House before Bluto goes on his rant. It is game day. Fire up!
Eye dunno, seams 'bout wright, hey?
Thank you, Eeyore.
Start 47, end 27...
"I had Marquette outside my top 45 last fall and by seasons end they were knocking on the door of the Top 25. That is why Wojo is a rising star in my book"

This. Jay's a Dookie and a pal. Set expectations low, celebrate outperforming.

Sure. It's a grand conspiracy.
Like anybody who has to predict for a living, Bilas misses plenty of predictions.
As TV analysts go, though, he is the best there is. He also says nice things about Marquette quite often, probably in part because of his relationship with Wojo, but he liked our program when Buzz was coach, too. He is not one of the ESPNers who supposedly "hates" MU.
I think 47 is a little low but not miles low. That puts us squarely on the bubble, and we'll have a pretty good idea in 5 weeks if that's where we belong.
Note that he ranked Davidson #15. That is probably a little high but I have said a few times that the Orlando people did us zero favors making us play them on Thanksgiving. They are a talented, well-coached, experienced team. I think that game is the key to our entire non-conference season (and perhaps our entire overall season), similar to how I felt about Louisville last year.
Other key non-con opponents ...
Bilas gives a little too much love to Purdue IMHO (#14). Wisconsin (34) and K-State (45) seem about right. USC, whom we almost surely will play if we beat Davidson, is two spots behind us at 49.

Agreed, we really don't know how good this team will be. A forty ish projection to start the season seems reasonable. We will know shortly though. The November schedule has many games where we can prove ourselves. Win the majority for those and we are a top 25 team the whole year.

Maybe being buddies with wojo gave bilas some additional insight on jayce's prognosis.

Wow. If that's your definition of a grand conspiracy....

That thought creeped into the back of my mind as well.
Even if Jayce is out for the entire year, he is not the difference between a top 25 team and a top 50 team. He just isn't.

It sure didn't help him with Frohling. That was one of the reasons for all the hype. Bilas had an early season game of ours and spent some time saying Frohling would be a game changer.
Sports Illustrated has Marquette at #28.

Yep. Perhaps Bilas' most egregious bad call involving MU.
Even worse than him picking us to beat Morant State.

And they rank Howard as the nation's third best player behind only Cole Anthony and Cassius Winston. Myles Powell ranks #4 on their list.

Nothing would make me happier than to be wrong about Wojo. But if we end the season at #47 (and likely miss the dance) it seems most people here would want him gone.

Yessir.
As I said, I think he's the best college hoops analyst out there. But when you have to say the sheer number of things he has to say in a given year, he's gonna be wrong a ton.

I think he used to be the best. Lately, he's been so focused on bashing the NCAA, it's become tough to listen to him. I think they deserve their fair share of criticism, but it's turning into Vitale talking about K or Knight in games they don't have a connection to.

It's nice to have a strong voice, one who is so widely respected, one who used to be a player and an assistant coach, take on an inept, monolithic, self-serving institution like the NCAA.
Vitale has been a caricature of himself for decades, so I don't think it's a very relevant comparison.
So while I respect your opinion, we will agree to disagree here, and I will say, "Bash away, Jay!"
