No, they played the Adelaide 36ers.  I was just curious what the origins of the name was.

ends up the South Australia Adelaide team was actually known for their inaugural season as the Eagles. 

Most likely the fan base was revolted by the Eagles name, that when management proposed Reds, they eagerly accepted the 36ers.
