Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] Jacksonville Preview
Post by: brewcity77 on September 23, 2019, 08:56:18 AM
Jacksonville, according to T-Rank, is the worst team on the Marquette schedule, and that's a good thing. We also look back at a time when this game merited national attention and why Marquette's national title bid was unraveled after their first meeting with the Dolphins.

The karmic replication of Marquette's first game with Jacksonville would be if Marquette came into this game undefeated, ranked in the top 5, and after a victory, Markus Howard declared he was leaving midseason for the G League. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Afternoon bump.

Jacksonville is an interesting college. A large proportion of their enrollment is kids who want to play on a D1 sports team in Florida. 582 kids out of 2900 undergraduates.

With them dropping football, is this their new Super Bowl?

Have a ton of friends who graduated from JU.  Academically, pretty solid, and a beautiful campus right on the St John's River.  They have a couple solid sports programs, baseball in particular is a popular stopping place for good athletes.  Basketball hasn't been the same, but Artis still makes his way around (still lives here, locally).

I like this matchup. Jacksonville's best player is their 6'10 center, Dave Bell. Was a high major recruit who played for Ohio State for two seasons (didn't do much). Averaging a double double and over 2 blocks a game. I'd like to see the coaches try to work the ball into our bigs to try and get them some practice working against a decent defensive center.

On the other hand, I took MU -19 so maybe MU should just make every shot and pick a different game to experiment.
