Wes, Dancing Bear, JFB, Dom, Jae.
1) Diener - the play against Kentucky where someone missed a shot (I believe it was his own shot but not sure), Kentucky got the defensive rebound, he snuck around and stripped the guy, dropped a pass off for a Jackson layup, and then grabbed the ball out of the net and slammed it from over his head onto the baseline defines Diener to me. The definition of a Warrior.
2) Wes
3) Jae
4) Novak
5) Lazar
Next five would be OTule, Junior, Ousmane, Jimmy, and Vander (especially for sticking it to the Badgers).
Lockett my favorite one year rental.
1) Jimmy
2) Jae
3) Novak
4) Dom
5) Diener
Diener
Jae
Davante
Jimmy
Rowsey
So nobody names our current All American??? I find our lack of appreciation for him to be strange, yet someone mentions Rowsey?
1. Jae
2. JFB
3. Travis
4. Dom
5. Novak
Next would include Wesley, Lazar, Jerel, Vander, Smoove and Mo.
1. Jae
2. Jimmy
3. Markus
4. Vander
5. Pretty Boy Buycks
1. Lazar
2. Jerel
3. Vander
4. Jae
5. Markus

I'll answer despite taking the thread to a negative place. For me hasn't yet cracked my favs but his work is not yet complete. Definitely has the chance.
In no particular order
Markus
Novak
The Big Sheesh
Jae
Wes
My 13 year old son Travis voted for Diener.
Not sure what you're seeking here with "beloved."
Do you want to know which 5 Warriors I have loved having on the team since D-Wade left?
Or do you want to know which 5 players I believe have been the most beloved by MU fans?
For the latter (most beloved by fans) ...
1. Gardner ... 2. Diener ... 3. S. Hauser ... 4. Novak ... 5. (tie) Crowder and Butler.
For the former (my faves) ...
1. Crowder ... 2. Butler ... 3. Howard ... 4. Diener ... 5. James.
In no particular order, based purely on their personalities and how fun it was (is) to watch them play:
Davante
Travis
Markus
Rowsey
Jae

I didn't put Travis in here since I consider him the same time as Wade.
DJ severely underappreciated.
1. Diener
2. Dom
3. Davante
4 jimmy
5 jae
I think some of it has to do with how visible they've been since. Travis was on staff, Steve and Wes are always around, Jimmy and Jae rep MU often. And the TBT has helped with that as well.
Dominic should be remembered as an all-time great. But I don't know if he's even been back to campus since graduation. Last we heard he was changing his name and schlepping balloons.
This is a bit hard, but I'll give it a shot. I'm sure I'll be tempted to revise repeatedly, but I'm just going to leave it at my first gut impression (in no particular order):
Lazar
JFB
Diener
Novak
Jae

He has had a very.successful career playing overseas. Qatar

Most beloved? All of them. All of the players on all of the MU teams. Team game. Team sport. Next question. 👍
Beloved means different things to each person so none of these posts has anything to do with the other posts since there's no agreed upon definition of the word. That said:
1. Markus Howard
2.
3.
4.
5.
Just limiting this to when I started at MU and after
1. DJO
2. Davante
3. Sam
4. Cadougan
5. JJJ
Kinda a weird 5, but that lineup would certainly win some games.

Gonna do the same but go from Senior year of high school.

5. McNeal
(Seriously 5 would be Markus but not counting him till graduation)

Andy Katz is out of his mind.
Just about every analyst feels pretty similarly about Markus. You must be smarter than all of them. I hope you're as good at whatever your day job is as you are at analyzing basketball, because clearly you're the smartest man in the room when it comes to analyzing basketball.
I seriously considered adding Heldt to my "most beloved by fans" list. Based on our Scooper sample size, more seem to love and appreciate him than they do Howard, which is, um, "fun."
Any list that doesn't include Ousmane is wrong.
Yea, beloved doesn't mean the same thing to everyone, so tough to make any all-encompassing list, but like SCOTUS' old obscenity test, you'll know it when you see it. But I do appreciate everyone's responses.
(Though I do think the Heldt/Otule/Frozenas of MU deserve a separate section because they are almost universally loved and it has nothing to do with basketball.)
My personal 5 (with the caveat that I started in '08):
1. Howard - I've never enjoyed watching someone play basketball as much I do with him.
2. Jimmy - All effort, clutch shots, and knew him a bit in college. Shining on the Bulls helped.
3. Jae - Ruthless and effective. That senior season keeps getting better with age.
4. Zar - I was mentally prepared for a letdown season after '09, but '10 was such a surprise. So tough.
5. S. Hauser - He dropped a bit, obvi, but his game is so smooth.

Andy Katz is out of his mind.
Why? If Markus leads Marquette on a nice tourney run, he should be beloved. The Amigos never got beyond the first weekend and a S16 will match what Jae and JFB accomplished. He will be the all time leading scorer and represents the university wonderfully off the court.
If someone has trouble with him after all that, they should look in the mirror.
This off the court stuff is a bunch of nonsense. Check the post game threads from last year if you think he's "beloved." It's not just me.
The program is trying to get ahead of the fact that a guy who isn't just a ball hog but seems actually UNABLE to pass is going to become our all time leading scorer. This after the player who may have actually been our "most beloved since Wade" (Sam) transferred because Howard announced he was returning.
Katz is in no position to make such a statement. He doesn't know who is "beloved." That is coming from the university and it's nonsense. Wojo started this sales job in his presser after the Hausers left.

A guy who is UNABLE to pass led the team with 4 assists per game last season and led the team in assist rate at 27.3% last season. That is an unbelievable feat for a guy who is UNABLE to pass the ball.
But yeah you're probably right, the university called up Andy Katz and said, "Andy, our fanbase absolutely hates that we have an All American returning to our team and we really need some good press for him PLEASE ANDY! Please! Write that the fanbase loves Markus Howard! If they read it coming from you, they'll really start to believe it! We need this, he's about to break our all time scoring record in the first game of his senior season, having come in a year early!"
OR maybe Andy has 1/100th of a brain and realizes that Markus is a once in a generation talent and that all but maybe 2 fans who call the kid a "cancer" even though he's, again, a returning All American who will break MU's scoring record by the end of the first game of what should be his junior year of college is, well, beloved for both his outstanding basketball abilities and being an outstanding ambassador for the university.
I'm sure Michigan State called up Katz to please put in a good word about Cassius Winston.
PRN is the cancer of MUScoop. Truly clueless.

No order but I'll go with Markus, Wes, Jimmy, Jae, and Jerel.
On a side note, I'm getting old and my memory is fading but just was looking at previous rosters and forgot that the 2010-2011 team had all the following on the team:
JFB
Dwight B.
Jae
DJO
Vander
Jamil
Davante
Bunch of great players. Too bad they weren't all at their full potential at the same time.
Lots of great options, but here are my quick gut choices:
Diener - a true Warrior and cold-blooded assassin
Markus - a remarkable shooter and outstanding representative for MU
Dominic - a wonderful kid who inspired my daughter to believe she could do anything (to this day, she credits something he said to her for her change from a decent student to an outstanding one)
Derrick - maybe an unpopular choice, but the kid worked his a$$ off, left it all out on the floor and seemed never to let the boo birds and naysayers affect his attitude
Otule - another guy who gave everything he had every time he stepped on the floor, and showed remarkable perseverance
Might change every day if I did this daily...
Davante (Big Sheesh)
Markus (M2N)
Jimmy
Deonte (MBD)
DJO
Jae
Wes
Lazar
Markus
Dominic
Diener
Novak
Jae
JFB
Markus
Jerel
Lazar

jfb
diener

This is kind of like asking which of your children you love the most. But if I had to pick, I'd say Jimmy Butler. I appreciated the way he came in an contributed right away by accepting a role as a defender and rebounder -- then improved as a player and stepped up as a leader each season.

Just looking at this from the perspective of the guys I enjoyed watching for a variety of reasons including teamwork and non-basketball contributions:
Davante
Rowsey
Jae
Diener
Heldt
honorable mention: Otule
had it but lost it because he seems to have turned into a prick: JFB
Better now than then: Buycks, Mo, Wes

If Markus leads MU to a Big East title and/or makes some noise in the NCAA tournament (i.e. a Sweet 16), his beloved rating will skyrocket.

The Amigos did neither of those things.
Most beloved?
Matt Heldt.
Jerel McNeal was my favorite Warrior. Surprised not to see him listed as much.
PRN is just one of those guys who deify those who left. The Hausers, Deonte, Dawson, etc.
Among those who stayed, my personal top 5....
Markus
Butler
Crowder
Dom

Novak

Travis picking up some extra votes in this poll today.
My problem with this is that it's limited to since Wade. The real characters that I loved came in the Al days, when the team fit its coach. Since you've limited it to the 2000s, I'd go this way:
1) Jae Crowder -- He was and is a winner. Loved his hustle and his unconventional look.
2) Matt Heldt -- Epitome of the one for others attitude. A great young man.
3) Robert Jackson -- Without Robert Jackson's one year, the final four would not have been possible.
4) Markus Howard -- Enough said.
5) Jerel McNeal -- Pardon me if I spelled his name wrong, but he was one heck of a ballplayer.
And my all-time favorite:
Bob Lackey -- Meanest SOB in the valley on the court. Had a swagger all his own off the court. People didn't mess with Lackey. Just ask the University of South Carolina!
