So is he going to SJU or staying at ASU?
Staying at ASU.
Mullin just announced he's resigning from ASU so things are getting weird.
And Howard decommitted from Marquette, hey?
Reckless, Reckless.
Adam Zagoria reporting that the hiring of Tim Cluess is held up on the $2-2.5M buyout. It's like mini-UCLA over there.

That sounds like a very high buyout for Iona....

that sounds like a very smart General Counsel at Iona.

They probably figured if someone came for him, they'd be able to afford it. Iona is paying him over $550,000 per year, more than double what Kevin Willard was making when he left. He also just signed an extension last year, so the contract is pretty fresh.

Very smart GC at Iona, and bad look for SJU if they won't pony up the buyout of a coach from the MAAC.
Solid OP

Wait ... it's a buyout so that means it's every bit as solid as the "contract" binding athletes to their schools.

I hope the Johnnies don't make that deal, that would give Iona enough loot to then sign Stan.

If you are a Marquette fan, why would you want to see Stan go?

He's saying that he hopes Iona doesn't get the buyout so they can't sign Stan. Which is funny because Stan wouldn't get paid as much as their current coach so they could sign Stan just on the savings from losing the coach.
Stan is a great guy and will be a head coach some day. But the credit he gets is a bit disproportional to me. if I were a betting man, I'd put money on Brett Nelson having the better coaching career of the two.

Thanks for the clarification, TAMU.
I have no idea who would be the better coach.

Any particular reason? I hear about Stan more, but only because of recruiting. I don't actually know that much about either's coaching abilities.

That alone is why I'd lean towards Stan. I do believe Nelson has been tasked with shot rebuilds, but Stan has definitely been the better recruiter. And I don't say that because of previous relationships that brought in Howard & Bailey but because he has apparently become our Minnesota guy. For someone who's always been more Left Coast to adapt to a new territory is impressive. Makes me think he'll be able to get players anywhere.

I agree with this analysis
Wait a second! I thought Hurley was staying at SJU?! Now im cornfused.
Iona isn't hiring Stan. Those schools hire guys with east coast ties. Southern Utah might be interested though since he's an alum.

Anyone know a ballpark figure of Stan's current compensation at MU? If they're able to get Stan on a salary less than Cluess, then wouldn't MU be able to at least match that for him? I could be way off as I'm not sure what the range of salary is for top assistants at high major programs.

It really doesn't matter. If Wojo thinks Stan is essential to the program. MU will come up with enough money to keep him...if he wants to stay.
But even if it is for less money, if Stan thinks it is best for his long term career to leave, he will leave.
So bottom line, money isn't an issue either way.
