Ty Outlaw will play for Virginia Tech after being charged with marijuana possession

Virginia Tech forward Ty Outlaw will play Friday night against Duke in the Sweet 16 after being cited for marijuana possession last week, the team announced Thursday.
Hokies coach Buzz Williams and Outlaw addressed the situation after the team practiced at the East regional site, Capital One Arena in Washington.
"Ty took a drug test by an outside agency yesterday before we left. And the test was negative," Williams said. "So maybe sometimes what scrolls across TV may not actually be the whole story or what is published on Twitter in an ironically efficient pace, may not be the whole story. So Ty's handled everything perfect. He's been transparent not only with me but with all the authorities involved. And I think it will play itself out."

Does anyone know where Cheeks stands on Buzz? I hadn't heard yet.
You mean...the kid had a small amount of something I can walk down the street in Bellevue and purchase freely?
I don't buy weed but I have always found the laws against marijuana to be ridiculous.
You know that many of the Founding Fathers not only grew it but rather enjoyed an afternoon toke? Thomas Jefferson extolled the virtues of weed in more than one correspondence.
Marijuana became verboten beginning in the '20's when it was viewed as the mind altering substance of choice of blacks and Hispanics. Much of the hysteria around weed was actually a proxy for anti-black and anti-Hispanic sentiment.
So Ty Outlaw got busted for weed? Who cares. It's now legal in 33 states.

And he would be declared ineligible had he been randomly drug tested by the NCAA. That's why Buzz did the third party test - so questions of his eligibility were addressed immediately.
My understanding is that cops came to his apartment, smelled weed, and came back with a search warrant the next day. This all occurred while he was with the team in San Jose.

Who the fuggin cares? You all buy Va Tech jerseys recently? Cause it sure seems like it.
Don't fail me now.
I give them a good shot to beat Duke. Duke is mostly freshmen, they aren't scared of Duke, have beaten them a bunch of times in the last few years, albeit at home.
Game in DC, should have plenty of Tech fans there and those that hate Duke will be cheering for Hokies.

We can, however, pick and choose how we react to people accused of breaking laws when we find those laws to be absurd. I mean, you wanna go all reefer madness in your reaction, fine by me. But, the rest of us are going to shrug and not care one iota.

The NCAA does not test for marijuana anymore.
I am all for the decriminalization of marijuana and am fortunate to live where it is decriminalized. That said, this kid knew it was illegal and possessed it anyway during the most important games of the year. That's stupid judgment on his part, but as soon as I saw it coming across the ESPN Bottom Line I knew he wouldn't be suspended.
Also, if his test came out clean despite being in possession does that mean he had the intent to sell?

Old timers may recall Bo Ellis getting caught with pot in his car at 4 AM the morning before the season opener in 1975. Coach/AD Al McGuire allowed Bo to play in the game and also did a fair amount of coaching during Bo's press conference about it. Obviously the pot did not belong to Bo. Bo played a great game that night and the whole thing was forgotten after a couple of days.

One could start a very convincing argument about the amount of death and violence alcohol has brought to our society versus the effects on people of THC. If no one knew any different and simply looked at the destructive impact of one versus the other they might wonder one is legal and tge other scorned for centuries. Just sayin.

Sam lived with Arte, as I recall. Came in the year after. Oliver was quite a character, however.

Maybe Buzz should apologize to us for ditching MU and leaving our program in shambles, hey?
I think Buzz schwacks Duke today. Based on nothing other than how fired up he got his guys.
I remember a great quote from Vander Blue where opponents would look at the schedule and seeing Marquette would mutter, "Sh1t, we gotta play those guys..." (or words to that effect.)
That was the greatest tribute one could pay to Buzzard.
Wouldn't that be nice to hear. Alas, it's not to be with the current regime.
Marquette is seen as talented but with a soft nougat center.

I heard an interview with Buzz and the Barstool Sports podcast the other day. It was classic Buzz. Manufacturing a chip on his shoulder, his team is always the underdog, last to the dance, people don't know who they are or know their names. It is a narrative he forms really well, and his teams use to their advantage.

What I want to know is who, in those pre-Dominos days, did TJ and the lads call in Charlottesville for delivery to slay the weed-fueled pangs of ravenous hunger?
Or as Jefferson's crew began to gather in his octagonal study, some of them bringing Steal Your Face and Live at Filmore East, did Sally Hemmings, wise to what the boys were up to, knowingly direct the baking of several batches of Colonial Oreos?
I think up in Braintree, Abby began making tacos when JA and Sam (Brewer and Patriot) sparked the first bowl of John's stash of home grown Dealer's Choice Massachusetts Thunder F#ck.
The Founding Father's: Patriots, Revolutionaries, Stoners
I loved Buzz when he was at MU, and he is definitely an elite coach. But watching Ahmed Hill last night I kept wondering how much Marquette charter jet $$$ Buzz burned up recruiting Hill and Pierce only to steal them away when he bolted for Tech. I guess if "everybody does it", it's Ok - but still seems a little squirmy to me.
Also, I think Jim Nanz incorrectly kept referring to Hill as a "holdover", implying he was at Tech before Buzz. He wasn't a holdover, he was Buzz-napped from Marquette.
