Title: I did not win the Power Ball
Post by: The Lens on March 28, 2019, 06:58:15 AM
No need to listen to me. I did not win last night so my dream of becoming MU's most influential booster will have to wait.

I immediately would have pushed for the following hires:

Face of the program: Wojo
Offensive Head Coach: TC (300 sets!)
Defensive Head Coach: KO
Life Lessons: Buzz
Bench Coach: Mike Deane

Will you be springing for a seatbelt on the bench?

The seatbelt is a one time cost, the Turners tab on the otherhand...

If we got a Home and Home with West Va we'd out do PMT.

Not sure certain current MU fans could tolerate the type of "Program" Al or Hologram Al would run.

It's almost as if societal norms have changed in 40+ years.

??? Al's program would be celebrated today by every Power 6 school. A few would bitch - maybe more than a few here. They would be in the vast minority.

Al treated people well, especially the staff and every day Joe.....that's the difference.  He wasn't better than them and didn't treat the common man or folks in the dept like crap, as if they had to do worship the ground he walked on.  That is why he was loved by those people.  He was also a fighter, a trait many want in their leaders, and especially their coaches.

I hope the power ball winner is a MU basketball fan.

Fights at halftime
In game brawls
Jucos
ABA defections
Players hanging people out of McCormick windows by their ankles

Lots of squirminess in the 70's!

Fights no big deal...happens almost every year
In game brawls, eh.  I want my guys ready to defend themselves and be tough
JUCOS are fine, but don't make it 40% of your roster
ABA defections....opportunity presented itself, nothing MU can do...MU and Al did right thing

People out of McCormick by the ankles...very bad, dumb....like being pulled behind a jeep on the street....bad, poor judgment, bad outcomes.

Al was beloved by the people who worked with him.  That is not the case for several of the men that took his role later.

Al couldn't recruit 3pt shooters for crap.

I literally can't recall a single 3-point shot made by any Warrior during the Al era.

On the other hand, I can't remember any shot clock violations, either.

If they can't deal with Tom Izzo getting in one of his player's face with his finger, what would they do when Al decked one of his players in practice?

What would they do when Al goes off on a ref?

"Give 'em Hell Al!!!!!!!

Gary Rosenberger.

Sister Chick is right in that we had no 3-point shot. But if we did, Gary probably would have started. He's probably have almost as many points for his career as Markus.

Instead, he was a shooting guard, brought in to loosen the defense up so Butch could drive or hammer it inside to Jerome and Bo.

Rosy was not starting if there was a five point line. Great role player, but not a starter. Remember his mini boycott senior year? He really wanted to start, but starting is not for everyone.

Given the rules of the time, I agree. Not sure I agree Rosenberger would have been benched oven today's rules.

It's an interesting debate because if today's rules existed then, Al might have recruited a bit differentLy. Maybe Boylan never would have come here? Fun to speculate but we never will know.

All true. Marquette was most definitely a rogue/renegade program in our hey day. And the orchestra leader was the head rogue/renegade.

Al would have been first coach to be a three point shooting team and would recruited shooters, no doubt. 30+ years ago he preached the three ball. Said if you shoot 33% from three was equal to 50% at two. There is no doubt he would have led that charge.
