They lost because Howard went 1-15 and Wojo and Howard refused to create plays for Sam to shoot when he was hot all game but rather went with Markus hero ball. 1-15 and a badly injured wrist and they still went with hero ball.
Not sure if Markus is scared he won't make the league and feels he needs to prove himself rather than deferring to others or what but Wojo goes along with it too and Markus hero ball killed us.
More times than not he wills them to win but they needed to realize last night was not one of those nights. There was terrible calls on both ends, MU was gifted a few ridiculous technical fouls and touch fouls at the end that put Markus at the line and he still failed to capitalize. They also had 8 minutes to foul their star Powell out and somehow failed to do so.
Did you see the look on Wojo's face when the ref told him Powell wasn't ejected and still in the game? Pure fear. Grow some stones and strategize to get him fouled out. Heldt had a golden opportunity to take a charge and get him fouled out right after he came back in.
Wojo needed to drill it in their heads to go at Powell every time and foul him out or draw a charge. The refs decisions are not in MU's control but that was and if they fouled him out with 6 or 7 minutes left they win that game. Markus almost did on a 3 pointer but the refs didn't call it so I'll give him credit for trying. Don't blame the refs when Marquette was within a shot of winning and lost it themselves.
I didn't really care in the end even though it was extremely frustrating because MU was a tourney lock either way and I think most including myself said they would've been satisfied with just at least an appearance this year. Hopefully they can make a run now.
They have a week to heal and prepare and if they come out like they did against St. John's after a week off then they can do some serious damage.
Wojo just needs to worry about what he can control and not the refs decisions. Let's stop this talk about boycotting the league when that was a winnable game even with the unfavorable conditions.

Powell should have been ejected...twice. How has it not gotten through your head the refs were not getting rid of Powell? He could've punched someone in the face after he had 4 fouls and they would've called a charge.
I'd much rather be the team that gets a 2 key players from my opponent ejected from the game with 12 minutes left than the team that gets a couple late favorable calls when I'm down 8 and very little time to play.
1. Paragraphs are your friend
2. Once Theo and Sacar went out and Joey was essentially out with four fouls they keyed in on Sam and he was rarely open.
3. Powell fouled Markus twice but the refs swallowed their whistles
Wojo had a look of fear when Powell returned? What the f*ck are you talking about?
Paragraphs.
Howard got Powell to foul him, except the refs didn't call it and would not call it. You can sit there and say create plays to go after Powell, no way in HELL the refs were going to call anything on him. That's living in a fairy tale world. Everyone in the building knew it.
In your words, you never ONCE said anything about our best defender in the locker room ejected, our our second best defender doing the same...or the fact that one of those guys already had 10 points for us. As if it didn't happen and didn't influence the game. Give me a break.
Are you equating the "gift" technicals at the end as a similar impact to losing John and Anim...seriously?
Pure fear? NO, more like pure disgust at the travesty of officiating.

He absolutely did. The ref went over and told him he was still in the game after he came back to the bench and he took a gulp and looked terrified. That was my observation at least.

That was the look of disbelief. Rightfully so.
How do you think Willard would have reacted if Sacar or Theo returned from the locker room?

I saw a look of total confusion but whatever. Last night was f*cked in a number of ways and one of them was the play of our BE POY. He choked from the field and the line. I'm not going to crucify him for it but I'm also not going to make excuses for him

No doubt losing Theo and Sacar was a huge blow and I was fuming as well. But that was a winnable game at the end and you know it. They called 2 ticky tack technicals on them at the end. They gave Markus 14 free throws in the final 2 minutes, he missed 4 of them and they lost by 2. Took a bad shot at the end instead of wide open Sam. Either one of them makes it and none of us here are whining. There was multiple factors that cost them the game, the refs being one of them, but you can't tell me even with those circumstances that wasn't a winnable game with things they could've done different than what they did. Rise up and persevere with the opportunities they were given (Sam hot, Markus not). Create better plays for Sam. That's all I'm saying. Doesn't matter cause we're in the tournament anyways.

Sorry about the paragraph. The circumstances with the BS ejections were not ideal but they still should've won. Open or not, Sam taking contested/open shots was better than Markus taking contested shots last night but that's not what happened. Markus needs to be smarter when he's not playing well/hurt. Not being able to grab a rebound at the end killed them too but I will agree that Theo and Sacar being ejected as well as Morrow being in foul trouble caused that. Still should've won regardless.
ND sucks.

He doesn't know the difference between fear and total disbelief!
It was a winnable game. Here is my opinion on Markus and hero ball as it pertains to last night and last night only.
Marquette was without 3 starters. The primary 5 on the floor down the stretch were Chartouny, Bailey, Morrow, Sam, and Markus. Nobody had hit diddly in the second half. Seton Hall was face guarding Sam out to 30 feet. He was gassed and not hitting. When MU ran the high pick and roll with Ed, both defenders were jumping Markus, leaving an ice-cold Bailey open on one side and Chartouny on the other.
A show of hands from everybody who want Chartouny shooting jumpers down the stretch. Yeah, I thought so.
Another show of hands from everybody who wanted Cain or Matt in there, based on their play last night. Hmmm, still no hands. Odd.
Willard is smarter than all of us. He realized what MU had on the floor. He was more than willing to let anybody other than Markus and Sam beat him. But his guys were too undisciplined and kept fouling Markus. If Markus has two good wrists and makes the expected 22-24 free throws, MU wins. But Markus is playing one handed.
I am pretty damned sure that Wojo gazed longingly down his bench at Greg and Koby. At some time, it probably occurred to him 'F-it, we are pulling Greg's red shirt right now.'
Sometimes, in a hostile environment, with erratic officiating, with three starters missing, with the other two starters injured or gassed, a team can't quite get over the hump. Contrary to popular opinion on this board, this is pretty common knowledge.

He had an off shooting night...much different than choking. He did hit his last 5 free throws in a row. The defense keyed on Sam. The pick and roll was useless if the help defense wouldn't leave Sam. They hedged hard on the pick, and the three other Marquette players ran away from the ball. Sam threw up some bad shots too.
Markus had Powell in the air on a three and didn't lean in to draw the foul on a 3.
Powell would have fouled out and Markus would have had 3 FTs. Instead, Markus didn't score and looked at the ref for the call that wasn't coming all night.
Let them off the hook. Not smart.

I'm fairly certain Markus's goal is to not play in any league. He wants to play in the Association.

On the last play, sam was not open except for maybe a .1 second window. Ed tried to set a screen but just got in the way, blocking a pass from Markus to Sam. There was maybe a pass but #2 for the Pirates was sitting in the passing lane, c would have been risky. Sam also would have gotten the ball with 1.5 seconds and still have been 5 to 10 feet behind the line. Not impossible for him but not an easy shot.
We say sam was wide open a lot when really the passing lane was being defended. Those dumb turnovers that we all kill Markus for? That's what happens when you force a pass to Sam with someone in the passing lane

This. His only option was BB. And honestly, given his 3 pt airballs all game that wasn't really an option.

Took a perfectly reasonable shot at the end, Sam was open but no pass would make it there, sorry but not with that trap and MH's height. No way.
Winnable or not, I found it interesting when taking a "logical" approach you failed to mention the most logical part which was our two best defenders in the locker room. That, is illogical.
As for hot hand, Sam missed 5 of his last 6 shots including one from literally one foot away.

He was fouled, refs didn't call it. If he leans into him, I'm guessing they still swallow their whistle
I really don't think Marcus has anything but the team winning on his mind. But he also is a shot first PG who doesn't have great court vision when he's dribbling. If he'd had great pg skills to go with his elite shooting he would have passed to Sam. But if he had all that he'd probably be playing at Duke right now if he wasn't already in the NBA. You can be mad that his shot didn't go in or that the game played out that we were behind but don't question his motives. Thats not fair for a guy who has done so much for MU the last 3 years.

When Powell got BB in the air with a pump fake he jumped right into him and created contact. He forced the ref to call a foul. In case you missed it, on Scoop it's called "The Thing", named after Andrew Rowsey. Markus does the anti-thing, trying (and usually succeeding) to avoid contact. Bails out the ref, who almost never calls anything in that situation.

I'm well aware of it, and I've also seen where they actually call the foul on the shooter for jumping into the player. They weren't going to foul out Powell the other night.
Howard drew enough contact for an easy call and those pos refs decided to swallow their whistles. That said Markus could've jumped into the contact and made it impossible for them not to call it
