Title: Al Era Newbie
Post by: Scoop Snoop on March 11, 2019, 07:33:47 PM
Long time lurker, first time poster. Thus the screen name. My wife and I are going to the BET and I will be wearing the politically incorrect '67-'68 Warrior button shown below. I am trying to convince her to wear the Blast the Badgers button. I bought the sweatshirt as a Freshman in September 1966.  Apparently being stored for decades in a carton in a slightly damp basement caused it to shrink a little. That is perfectly understandable but what is a mystery to me is why it shrunk more near the waist than at the top. The booklet is loaded with stats, some great caricatures, and Al stories that I will share with you in the off season when the raging fires that are on Scoop now burn out. Yeah, I know. There will always be new ones.

I will probably spend most of my time on the sidelines lurking, but I may chime in once in a while. Also in the off season, I'll share some personal stories with you including my 5 second private conversation with Al, the time a Marquette player justifiably punched an opponent right in the mouth in the closing seconds of the game, and what a two legged megaphone of a student yelled at the refs that made the crowd (and probably the refs as well) at the arena laugh heartily.

We will be enroute to NYC via train on Wednesday and I will respond to some comments tomorrow but may not respond after that until we return. Please understand that I am one of those increasingly rare people who refuses to be held on an electronic leash.

If anyone going knows of a gathering place for Wednesday evening I would appreciate the info. When I told my sister that I was bringing some mementos to Mustang Harry's, she wisecracked "What are you going to do, set up a booth?"

Welcome Snoop!

I'm old enough to remember the latter Al years, but I was still a kid so I don't have any inside stories. As a result, I love hearing from people who were at MU back in Al's day.

Thanks for all the welcomes!

My wife and I are really looking forward to the NYC trip but are nervous about the possibility of another St. John's matchup. We were at the Georgetown game in DC and the guys pulled through with Markus on the bench, so....  Maybe my wife's favorite player, Sam, will be the hero if Markus has an off game. We will enjoy meeting alumni at Mustang Harry's and going to the send off for the team.
