Wojo to SIU-Edwardsville?

Brian Barone is also on staff. His brother thought the staff was in trouble back in January.  It's a difficult job, especially as a first head coaching job.

Jon will latch on as an assistant somewhere.  He's proved his chops as an assistant at high levels and is a great dude.  He could some great things with Theo and MU's other bigs.

Yep. Jon worked well with Cuonzo at UT and for a year at Berkeley - that's what got him his shot at SIU in the first place - so he should have no problem getting a nice assistant gig.

I'd love to see him back at MU if Wojo can fit him in.

Met his parents at the '02 tournament in St. Louis. Wonderful people.

Jon's wife Heidi also played at Marquette - wish their family the best.

In an odd twist they promoted Brian Barone to take over for Harris.

So you fire the head coach because he doesn't win enough games ......then hire one of his assistants to replace him?

Good luck to Brian......

I thought that was odd too. Maybe hoping a new name will satisfy boosters but a guy already in place will help keep the incoming recruiting class?

SIUE is a difficult job. It's been Division 1 for about a decade now. It's much more of a commuter school than SIUC. Long known as a soccer school and for the highly successful yesteryear professional tennis duo of Ken Flach and Robert Seguso.  Jon is from Edwardsville in metro St. Louis.

It's interesting to see Barone. The guess is different personality, higher energy, more of a player's coach. Barone can sell his dad, along with working with Crean, Porter Moser, and playing with Brian Wardle up the way in Peoria.  Cuonzo Martin became Mizzou's coach after Jon was hired. An additional former Cuonzo assistant is now head coach at one of the perennial high school powers there.  Jon should be able to get some different college coaching assistant opportunities or other. Wouldn't suprise me if he ever went back with Martin when the opportunity arose.
