Title: Best walk-ons
Post by: Afroman on March 08, 2019, 02:51:19 AM
In light of Saturday's Senior Day and one of the three honorees being Cam Marotta, I got to thinking about some of the walk-ons that helped the program over the years.
Who are some that stand out to you?
I remember Bruce Hayes joining the Tony Smith-led team in 1990 and providing valuable minutes in the backcourt during KO's first season. He also played the following season. Were there other walk-ons who contributed as much on the court?
With that said, Cam has been great -- enthusiastic and a real benefit to the team and university. I wish him and all of the seniors well. Their futures are bright!

Marcus West

I forgot he was a walk-on.  Wasn’t it because he had a scholarship for soccer or something like that?

Chris Crawford,  IIRC, gave up his scholarship after getting a baseball contract.

I thought Marcus West had to give up his soccer scholarship for a basketball one.

I thought Al gave Delsman a schollie his sophomore year.

In 02-03 he shot 100% from 3 and 100% from the line. I can't believe he didn't play more, super efficient.

He did, but #23 walked on as a freshman and then earned his schollie and became a very valuble part of the rotation

Exactly the same thought I had when someone mentioned Mr. Delsman. I had thought he and McGuire had physically goteen into it, but I may be mis-remembering.

Rob did a great job, didn’t perform like a walk on in my opinion.  Playing for a real d!k(tc)could not have been easy.  He told me of the time he walked into practice late following a final exam and tc told him to get the hell out if he couldn’t be on time.  Walk ons under some were treated like chit samiches without the bread

Walk ons are the college basketball equivalent of what is known in the world's greatest Air Force as "Seat Meat."

Non-pilots who sit in the back seat. Essential? No. But they have a role. Frankly, most pilots would rather have the weight in gas.

The best walk on ever was Mark Titus.
