Title: [Paint Touches] Best MU shooters by zone 2018-19

Here's a quick visualization on who thrives where on the floor this season. Sam is ridiculous.

"Markus Howard's prowess from just inside the 3-point arc was also fascinating. Those are usually the most inefficient shots you can take, but when you hit 15/20, it makes sense to keep firing away."

I'll say! I'm not the best at math, but 75% on long 2's (which have basically become verboten) is even better than a ridiculous 43% from 3 (~65% effective%).

Dear lord Markus is good

This is interesting.  And while I don't expect to see the results, I'm curious how many other teams (even just top 10 teams) would have 5 guys show up on that chart.  Maybe more than I think.  While Markus and Sam are the bulk of MU's scoring, it's good to know there's lots of options to go around.

Sam's turnarounds and fade aways near the bucket never look great coming out of the hand....but damn if he doesn't hit almost every one of them.

Who would have guessed before the season that Sacar would be our best shooter from the right 3-point corner?

From his frosh debut to now, that young man's improvement has been remarkable. He started as a defensive specialist, with little offensive game. Then he added slashing with some nice finishes. Now, he is a legitimate threat to hit the pull-up in the lane and even the spot-up 3-pointer off a nice pass. Can't wait to see what he adds next season....

Wouldn't be surprised to see a similar trajectory for Dexter Akanno (maybe not the exact arc but similar type of progression)

Based on recent games, it seemed to me like Sacar was killing it from the left corner, as well.

He's shooting 15-31 (48.4%) from beyond the arc in conference play. That's first in the Big East. The corner is definitely his favorite spot on the court to let it fly.

He still has a long way to go, obviously, but given his steady development, I wonder if he has a shot at a Buycks style cup of coffee in the NBA at some point.  Probably not, but love to see a guy who grinds like that get rewarded.

I disagree with that. I think those shots look soft and smooth, and when they hit rim, the bounce gently around the cylinder, until...BUCKET!

Sam has a great touch. His ball hits the rim like a feather (you get the gist). Keep it up fellas!!!

Yep. When you get the "shooter's roll" time after time, it usually means you're a pretty good shooter.

Sam knows when he has a good matchup for a post-up and where he needs to be to get the best shot. His mechanics are smooth. And if it's not there, or the double-team comes, he's great at finding the open man. He's become a much more dangerous offensive threat.
