Thanks; good stuff.  the relative success of the high defensive efficiency rating and the #1seed was kind of curve ball

So who does Pomeroy currently rate as the number 1 team on defensive efficiency?  Texas Tech?  Am I reading his chart correctly?  I don't subscribe....

Texas Tech is #1 by a pretty solid margin. Virginia is #2, also by a solid margin. Michigan is #3 and is also by a solid margin. Then you have 4-7 clumped together pretty close: VCU, Duke, Wisconsin, and Kansas State (hey we beat two of those teams).

Amazing that we are the highest rated defense in the Big East at #41. For comparison we would be:

2nd best defense in the A10
2nd best defense in the A Sun
2nd best defense int the MWC
2nd best defense in the P12
2nd best defense in the Southern
2nd best defense in the WCC
3rd best defense in the MAC
4th best defense in the AAC
4th best defense in the SEC
7th best defense in the B12
10th best defense in the ACC
10th best defense in the B1G

Big East puts up some offensive numbers

Thats horsecrap half the BIG 10 teams would score in the 40s against us

Interesting side note: that 2009-10 USC team that was #1 in defense but missed the dance was coached by Kevin O'Neill.

His offenses often struggled, but the guy could sure coach D.

Maybe....though we've played two B1G teams, one scored 92, the other scored 69 (61 in regulation). One of those is the 6th best offense in the B1G and the other is the 12th best offense per KenPom. Wisconsin ranks dead last in tempo and Indiana is in the middle of the pack so it's not just that we played faster paced B1G teams. Small sample size but I'm not sure we can really complain much on this point.

Yeah that's just a ridiculous comment.......2 teams have scored in the 40s against us this season......UMBC and Southern.......all of the Big 10 have significantly better offenses then those 2 schools.
