Great to see Theo and Ed getting some attention for their defensive contributions!

Thanks for posting. Nice to see them get some attention. I don't think you can overstate how crucial their presence, particularly Theo's, has been to our improved defense. Guys still get by our perimeter defenders on occasion, but rather than just going in for layups like we saw repeatedly over the years, they now approach the bucket and very frequently kick it back out rather than challenge THAT MONSTER. Ed's Block against Wisconsin is still one of the most impressive and clutch plays of the year. He's had several big ones. So nice to have some brawn inside we've lacked for a long time.

The strength of our team is our team. Cheering each other on. Defense up to 39th in the country.

Great, if outsiders just look at the link, they'll be talking about Marquette's great defensive center "John Morrow Jr.".

Perfect. They'll be waiting for John Morrow Jr to come in, so their guard will be down when Theo and Ed are playing....

Not to be Debbie Downer, but the only reason that he was in position to go for a block is because Happ beat him cutting from the free throw line.

He got beat. It happens. What made it special was the recovery.

Is this the inverse of, "other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?"

He was lulling Happ into a false sense of security....

Exactly this right here, rope a dope!
-
Right--Ed figured out that he's less likely to get called for the foul when he swoops in from behind to block the shot on the slower Happ than if he contests the shot chest-to-chest..
-
Why would anybody be afraid to foul Happ?

Why would anybody be afraid to foul Happ?
Because it was early in the season and Happ figured out a free throw shooting form that worked for him this past offseason...

Well our FT defense is pretty poor

Recovery is an important defensive asset. Bailey is a good example as he gets beat frequently off the bounce but is able to recover and use his wing span quite well.
At the end of the Nova game both Markus and Sacar were beat and Ed slid over to cover the paint. These are taught concepts.

Theo and Ed have a done a very good job this year. While they might not be offensive threats, their presence on D end and rebounding has been a very big improvement over last few season.
-
Together, Theo and Ed are averaging 11 ppg (on 58.8% shooting from the field), 8.8 rpg and 3 bpg in 33.3 combined mpg. They also rank first and second on the team in offensive rebounds. Their contributions have been huge this season.
