I was very surprised by this. To be honest, it kind of reminisced of something Crean would've done. Having said that, it was effective
He does it every game.
Stan Johnson used to do it alot. I have not seen him do it this year.
On the post game show with Homer, he apologized for it. I didn't think it warranted an apology. I liked seeing him do it.
I can tell you it worked. He did it 2 times with gusto around the 7 to 8 minute mark. I wasn't going to sit again. Got all the sweater vests (other than some folks on the floor) up.
He shouldn't have to.

Actually it was already happening. He was late to the scene there. Folks were on their feet. We were all up in 103.

Correct.
I love it.
I love it too. And to the turds in 117, act like you're at the game instead of on your couch. Piss effort (and not for the first time this year although you were worse on Tuesday). For that matter, the whole place should've been on our feet for at least the final 8 mins.

But make sure not to swear
I had nice seats for the DePaul game at the Chalupa, and most of the sweater vests were planted in their seats just about all night.
As MU was making a little run in the 2H, Wojo asked for noise and a few dozen people in my section actually stood and cheered for about 30 seconds.
He has absolutely nothing to apologize for.
Glad some are calling out the fans. Was very excited to give St John's some payback in a hostile environment and instead nobody showed up..
Same people who were no shows that day most likely tried to sell their tickets for 5x the price today.
Loved wojos energy. Nothing to apologize for. He has a great team to cheer for. Can't wait for the next game and to attend more games this year! Go MU!!!

I sat in 117, we were on our feet, but yes there were plenty that weren't. Fun game
Zero problem with Wojo urging on the fans. The place was jumping and loved to see/hear it. Feel badly that I will be out of town for the last three home games.
I have to think Al never had to ask for noise
I am surprised no one has commented yet on the lack of people in the upper deck. I saw hundreds of empty seats all game with the shirts still on the seats in the second half. Bizarre but I would reckon the upper deck was only 80% full for the game. People get greedy and try to sell their tickets for too much?

About five minutes after the game started, 4 young men walked in and sat next to me in 210. I got to talking to one. They were students, and by the time they arrived the student section was full, so the FF gave them other available seats.
I just find it hard to believe there were that many seats open!

I was in the upper deck yesterday. Bought my ticket on the exchange. It was 98% full and loud.

I agree. I was in 210 and frequently stood up and most in the section wouldn't. I don't like blocking people if they don't get up so I often had to sit back down. The whole place should have been standing.
That game was strange in that there were several times it seemed like the place would absolutely explode with a bucket, but we kept missing those shots. None bigger than Markus missing an open 3 when we were up 15 in the second half on the heels of a good MU run. I said at the time that could be a turning point moment because the place would have gone crazy and 18 is a huge cushion with such strong momentum. Instead they hit a 3 immediately after that sparked a 10-0 run and it became a nail biter.

Same section. Felt the same way.
But my wife was breastfeeding most of the second half, so she didn't mind that the first few rows in front of her weren't standing.

Yes, we said same thing. He was going for the kill shot there and that miss then culminated in 10-0 run

Actually Al was the master orchestrator. He knew how to get the building going. Those technicals worked wonders. "Give em hell Al " was one of the most fun chants at the old arena. Al did things different but he new how to fire up the faithful

Yet ironically the majority of people who sit on their hands the whole game are Al era alums. 🤔

Who probably complained, the entire time they were students, about the lame sweater vests and their good seats!

Yes, we did complain about the ones sitting. It was always loud enough that my ears rang for hours after every game, however.

Its probably from all of that hippie rock music
I've heard of walking to school uphill both ways and walking through 10 feet of snow, but I've never heard "we yelled so loud our ears rang the rest of the day". And I'm approaching 50.

Al got booed off the floor in his final home game
If Wojo starts asking/yelling for "Cotton Eyed Joe" to be played, I'll start to get worried....

Final home game my senior year and you are 100% correct! Wichita State beat us 75-64 and the booing was directed at the officials as Al screamed at them.
I have no idea how or why folks continue to say Al was booed off any court. It is beyond laughable.

I bet they were the loudest damn boos anyone has heard to this day
Their ears are still ringing.
We were in the top row of 223, and our section was pretty, but not one hundred percent, full.
I was up and down during the game, but I am superstitious, and if I stand at the end with the game in the balance, bad things always happen lol. Sitting it can go either way. I tried kind of half-standing, half-sitting this time (leaning on the armrest, basically) with 12 seconds left but bad things happened, so I sat back down. So you see I brought home the win..

Highly recommend you watch next game standing on your head.
Another great article post game from the Athletic....Mentions Wojo asking for help from the crowd....again....I strongly recommend trying the Athletic on a free trial if you can......

my wife and I were also in 210! first row seats 1 and 2... there were so many times I wanted to stand but I'd look out of the corner of my eye and seeing people behind me sitting whose view didn't want to block.
my compromise ended up being jumping up for big buckets and defensive player, then quickly sitting back down. it's times like these i was sad I can't get in the student section anymore.
We are in section 208, and while we usually try to be respectful to the people directly behind us who don't necessarily want to stand...
Yesterday was National Marquette Day, and we were playing the defending National Champs and the current leader in the Big East standings, so eff them if they are mad that we stood up and made a lot of noise!
